Neon snaps up Mike Flanagan-produced horror movie Shelby Oaks

As a huge fan of both Chris Stuckmann and horror movies, I can hardly contain my excitement about his upcoming film, “Shelby Oaks.” The news that Neon has picked it up for theatrical distribution is absolutely thrilling! I’ve been following Stuckmann’s career closely, and I’ve been impressed with his ability to consistently deliver thoughtful and insightful film critiques. But now, he’s stepping behind the camera to direct a horror movie that’s sure to leave us all on the edge of our seats.

Exciting update for horror enthusiasts and devoted subscribers of Chris Stuckmann, the acclaimed film critic: His upcoming horror production titled “Shelby Oaks” has secured a deal with Neon for cinematic distribution. The movie will make its global debut this weekend at the Fantasia Festival, indicating a probable theater release in 2025.

Lately, Neon has been creating quite a buzz around town due to the remarkable achievement of its latest release, “Longlegs.” This chilling and disquieting serial killer film, featuring Maika Monroe as a tenacious FBI agent and an unrecognizable Nicolas Cage portraying the elusive title character, has left audiences spellbound. The box office success of “Longlegs” set a new record for the highest opening weekend revenue for an original horror movie this year, raking in an impressive $22.6 million.

Based on Variety’s report, Longlegs cost under $10 million to produce and approximately the same amount was spent on its marketing. Consequently, it has earned back its production and marketing costs during its initial movie theater release.

It’s a promising development that Neon has decided to support Stuckmann’s horror movie, “Shelby Oaks.” This news bodes well not only for the future of original horror films but also for the production itself. With Neon’s track record of successful marketing campaigns, such as for “Longlegs,” we can expect great things for “Shelby Oaks” as well.

Additionally, Shelby Oaks’ project boasts the involvement of Mike Flanagan as an executive producer, joining Trevor Macy and Melinda Nihioka from Intrepid Pictures. According to Deadline, Adam F. Goldberg, Paul Holbrook, Sean E. DeMott, and Tony Killough are also contributing as executive producers.

I’m excited about the upcoming supernatural horror film, “Shelby Oaks,” directed by Stuckmann. In this story, two sisters, Mia and Riley, are at the heart of the action. When Riley inexplicably vanishes following the release of her last investigative tape, Mia becomes consumed with finding answers about her sister’s fate. This plot shares similarities with “Censor,” but I can’t wait to discover what unique elements “Shelby Oaks” will add to the genre.

I’m thrilled to share that “Shelby Oaks” features some talented actors in its cast, including Camille Sullivan, Brendan Sexton III, Michael Beach, Robin Bartlett, and Keith David. This intriguing horror project garnered an impressive amount of support through a Kickstarter campaign, raising over $1.3 million – as reported by Deadline – making it the most-funded horror movie on the platform to date.
