34 Years Later, FernGully Is Getting a Live-Action Remake

Amazon MGM Studios is bringing the classic 1992 animated film FernGully: The Last Rainforest to life with a new live-action remake. Although there was a sequel made previously, this will be the first time the story is told with real actors.

Reports have surfaced that a live-action remake of FernGully is in the works. Marielle Heller will write and direct the reboot, with Stacey Sher of Shiny Penny producing alongside Susan Ursitti-Sheinberg, Jon Sheinberg, and Matt Feige of Sheinberg Feige Organization. Heller and Leah Holzer will also produce through their company, Defiant, and Moonli Signha is on board as an executive producer.

Marielle Heller is the director behind the critically acclaimed 2019 film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a biopic about Fred Rogers starring Tom Hanks. She’s working with Hanks again on the upcoming sports drama The Comebacker. Heller recently wrote and directed Nightbitch, starring Amy Adams, and her other films include The Diary of a Teenage Girl and Can You Ever Forgive Me?
