10 Modern TV Crossovers We Want To See

Few things are as fun as when characters from different TV shows appear together. Years ago, it was common to see unexpected pairings like Lucille Ball with Superman, or Alf watching Gilligan’s Island. These days, TV crossovers are much rarer. With so many networks and streaming services competing, they rarely collaborate.

Even though they don’t happen often, TV crossovers are always exciting. It’s fun to see characters from different shows, even ones with very different styles, come together for a special episode. A recent example that surprised everyone was the crossover between It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Abbott Elementary, which created some hilarious and unexpected interactions. Crossovers are still common within established franchises like Law & Order, Chicago Fire, and Grey’s Anatomy. But there are many other popular shows that would be great to see team up, too.

Shrinking & Ted Lasso

Bill Lawrence’s Feel-Good Apple TV Shows Would Make A Perfect Pair

Bill Lawrence is a veteran of hit sitcoms, and currently has two shows on Apple TV with a shared creative team. While originally planned to conclude after three seasons, his show Ted Lasso, starring Jason Sudeikis and following an American football coach leading a British soccer team, is coming back for a fourth season – a decision that’s received a varied response from viewers.

Season four of Ted Lasso could be a major challenge for Apple TV, but a smart move would be to connect it with Jason Segel’s show, Shrinking. It’s believable that characters from Shrinking could travel to England to attend a Ted Lasso game. Seeing a clash between the famously grumpy Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and Paul Rhoades (Harrison Ford) would be particularly fantastic.

Only Murders In The Building & Poker Face

Natasha Lyonne Could Lend A Hand To The Arconia’s Amateur Podcasters

Even before its cancellation after just two seasons, Poker Face on Peacock was a hidden gem of a crime show. Now, there’s talk that Natasha Lyonne, who starred as Charlie Cale, might appear in Only Murders in the Building, the popular Hulu series starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. The show follows three true crime enthusiasts who launch a podcast to investigate a series of murders happening in their upscale New York City apartment building.

As a big fan of Only Murders in the Building, I’ve noticed it’s become a magnet for amazing actors – Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd, even Ron Howard has popped up! Considering how much the show loves to poke fun at Hollywood, it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Natasha Lyonne make a cameo. But here’s the fun part: not as her Poker Face character, but as herself, using those brilliant detective skills she honed on that show to help the Arconia crew solve another case. They’re good people, but honestly, they could use the help!

Ted & The Orville

Seth MacFarlane Is No Stranger To Letting His Shows Cross Paths

It’s uncertain if Seth MacFarlane’s Ted will continue on Peacock, as the show is costly to make. One possibility to help ensure a third season could be to include a crossover episode with The Orville, his science fiction comedy that parodies shows like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica. MacFarlane has successfully done similar crossovers with his other animated series, Family Guy and American Dad, before.

The big question is how the show Ted, set in a typical suburban neighborhood, could connect with the futuristic world of space exploration. Ted is already known for its silly humor, and The Orville previously explored time travel. One idea is that The Orville could take inspiration from Star Trek IV, where the crew gets stuck in 1990s Boston. They might need help from the Bennett family to return to their own time. It could be a little strange though, since Scott Grimes plays both Lieutenant Malloy on The Orville and Matty on Ted.

Ponies & The Americans

The Latest Cold War-Era Russia Series Could Bring Back An Old Favorite

Though separated by a few years and an ocean, the worlds of Ponies and The Americans aren’t that far apart – Ponies is set in 1977 Moscow, and The Americans begins in Washington, D.C. in 1981. It wouldn’t be a stretch to see Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell return as their Americans characters, Philip and Elizabeth Jennings, in a Ponies appearance, exploring their lives before the events of the original series.

I have to say, Ponies really hit its stride in the first season. It felt like a natural follow-up to The Americans, carrying that same tense Cold War vibe. And honestly, considering the timeline, it’s totally plausible that the characters from The Americans – Philip and Elizabeth – could have intersected with the lives of Bea and Twila, the suburban housewives turned spies. The show leaves enough space for that crossover to feel believable, which is a clever bit of storytelling.

Daredevil: Born Again & MCU Spider-Man

They’ve Met On The Big Screen, Now Let’s Reunite Them On The Small Screen

The Daredevil series has already connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) several times. For example, Matt Murdock appeared as Peter Parker’s lawyer in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Kingpin was in Hawkeye. These connections will continue with Jon Bernthal reprising his role as Frank Castle in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is set to be a major crossover event.

It’s been a long time coming, but Spider-Man should now appear in the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again. It would be really enjoyable to see Tom Holland’s Peter Parker battling more grounded, street-level criminals, and a fight between him and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin – a classic Spider-Man villain – would be fantastic.

Pluribus & The Breaking Bad Franchise

Vince Gilligan Says He’s Done With Breaking Bad… But Would A Few More Easter Eggs Hurt?

Fans watching Apple TV+’s Pluribus have noticed hidden references to Vince Gilligan’s earlier shows, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. These ‘Easter eggs’ include familiar voices, like that of Patrick Fabian, and details like the Wayfarer airline. Because both Pluribus and Breaking Bad are set in Albuquerque, many viewers believe a connection between the two shows is possible.

While a full reunion of characters from Breaking Bad like Walter White, Jesse Pinkman, or Saul Goodman is unlikely, creator Vince Gilligan and his team are known for their attention to detail. So, expect to see more subtle nods to Breaking Bad and Gilligan’s other work in future seasons of Pluribus. Even a small appearance, like Betsy Brandt reprising her role with a purple outfit, would be a welcome treat.

A Man On The Inside & The Good Place

They’re Already Effectively Sister Shows

Ted Danson and Michael Schur, the team behind the TV show The Good Place, have teamed up again for A Man on the Inside. However, this new show is quite different from The Good Place. While The Good Place was fantastical, A Man on the Inside is more realistic, with Danson playing a private investigator who solves smaller, everyday crimes instead of overseeing the afterlife.

Ted Danson’s new role could be a continuation of his character from The Good Place, picking up after the finale where he became human and lived on Earth. Alternatively, the show might bring back other familiar faces from The Good Place, like William Jackson Harper as Chidi, perhaps by having him visit San Francisco as a guest lecturer.

Stranger Things & The X-Files Reboot

The Upside Down Would Be A Classic X-Files Case For Mulder & Scully

There’s a lot of anticipation for Ryan Coogler’s revival of The X-Files, and a fun way to capture the original’s spirit would be to bring in elements from another show. Stranger Things, with its already planned expansions by the Duffer Brothers, would be a perfect fit. This crossover episode wouldn’t even require bringing back familiar faces like Eleven or Hopper.

If The X-Files and Stranger Things ever cross over, it should still center around Mulder and Scully. Having them investigate the mysteries of Stranger Things—like the Upside Down—would be a fun way to connect the shows, and it could also help clarify the often-complex rules and backstory of that world.

Alien: Earth & The Predator Franchise

The Predator Franchise Should Learn From Alien’s Playbook

Sequels to beloved franchises often struggle to recapture the magic of the originals, but the success of Alien: Earth offers hope for correcting the issues with the Alien vs. Predator films. The Predator franchise has also been doing well lately, with fresh approaches in movies like Predator: Badlands and Prey. Now is an ideal moment to bring Alien vs. Predator back as a TV series and see if these newer stories can revitalize the concept.

A Predator TV series could build on the success of both Badlands and Prey. Considering what’s already happened in the movies, it’s easy to envision these storylines crossing over. However, to truly thrill fans, a crossover featuring characters from the popular Alien: Earth series would be ideal.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer & Supernatural Joint Revival

If No One Else Will Reboot Buffy, Maybe Supernatural’s Fanbase Can

Many fans were disappointed to hear that Hulu decided to cancel the planned reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This is particularly upsetting because the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a groundbreaking show that inspired many other popular fantasy series, like Supernatural, which ran for 15 seasons on the CW.

Several spin-offs of Supernatural have been tried, like The Winchesters and Wayward Sisters. But perhaps the best way to bring the show back would be a crossover with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The two shows share a lot of similarities, including dedicated fans, so it would be exciting to see Buffy Summers team up with Sam and Dean Winchester in a special episode or two full of action.
