YouTuber brings computer from cs_office to life
After delving into the realm of retro gaming with Bringus Studios, I must say it was quite an enlightening experience! From the humble beginnings of Half-Life 2 running smoothly with all settings on low and resolution at 640×480, to Counter-Strike Source managing a playable frame rate, even if not as smooth as modern games.
And has fun trying different games on it.
In Counter-Strike, the maps are nearly lifelike versions or imaginative depictions of various locations, ranging from medieval castles like Cobblestone to bustling markets in Mirage, and even an unfinished construction site on Vertigo. Among these diverse settings, cs_office stands out as a timeless classic. Notably characterized by numerous computers, this map follows the typical office layout. Intriguingly, a YouTube creator has rebuilt one of the computers from cs_office to observe how it fares in today’s tech-driven environment.
YouTuber recreates cs_office computer
Following an investigation, it appears that the computer located on the cs_office map bears a strong resemblance to the DELL Dimension 8400 Desktop, which was released approximately in 2003. The desktop typically sold for around $1,099, but with a $200 discount, it could be purchased for roughly $899.
Not only were physical appearances compared, but also internal components. In Counter-Strike, destroying computers reveals their inner parts. Similarly, Bringus Studios peeked inside their subject and found video cards, sound cards, a DVD drive, and a motherboard. However, unlike a Dell Dimension 8400 PC, the motherboard was not of that model.

By conducting a Google reverse image search of the motherboard part, it was identified as an ASUS A8V Deluxe. Unfortunately, the YouTuber discovered that there aren’t many new ASUS A8V Deluxe motherboards available for purchase. The only one on eBay was faulty and wouldn’t turn on, thus hindering the plan to install this specific motherboard into the Dell Dimension 8400. In the end, the YouTuber opted to buy the items visible on the office table instead, as it proved simpler than attempting to make the ASUS motherboard compatible with the Dell computer.
As someone who grew up in the early 2000s, I can still remember the excitement when our family finally got a computer with a NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200 Graphics card, which had just been released in October 2001. The graphics card was quite a marvel back then, with an area of 128 mm² and 57 million transistors packed inside. I remember the price tag of around $149 seemed like a small fortune at the time, but it was worth every penny.
One by one, he tried out different games – some with success, some without success.

Half Life | Works |
Half Life 2 | Works with low settings and 640*480 |
Team Fortress 2 | Works (Low FPS) |
GTA San Andreas | Not Playable |
Portal | Works |
Portal 2 | Works Decent |
Doom | Does not Launch |
Doom 3 | Works |
Quake 4 | Works |
cs_source | Works |
Following some adjustments on Half Life 2, including lowering all video settings and reducing resolution to 640 x 480, we successfully managed to run the game. Surprisingly, it performed quite well, even reaching up to 100 frames per second at certain points during gameplay.
Did it run Counter-Strike Source?
The next game that he tried was Counter-Strike Source, the home of the computer he built. After changing the resolution he jumped in to cs_office. It wasn’t as good as Half-Life 2, peaking at around 30-40 FPS. At some points, it would go down to 20 FPS as well, but the game did run smoothly.
After selecting Portal as our game, it functioned smoothly on my computer without any hitches. The frame rate hovered between 30-40 FPS, yet it was played at medium to high settings, making it an impressive feat. Team Fortress 2 also ran fairly well, though the YouTuber was using a very outdated version of TF2.
GTA San Andreas, Quake 4, Doom 3 and more
GTA San Andreas, Portal 2, and Doom were all problematic when launched, and couldn’t be played effectively. However, surprisingly, Doom 3 functioned well and provided a decent gaming experience. As we move into more recent game releases, many of them have had issues with proper functioning.
He played his last game, which was Quake 4. Inserting a Disk into the CD drive, he encountered an extended beeping noise from the computer as the game started up. Despite some initial glitches, the game ran relatively well, with smooth operation, though there were occasional lag spikes during gameplay.
