World famous actress Tang Wei shocks fans with ‘unexpected’ pregnancy at age 46

Chinese actress Tang Wei is pregnant with her second child.

The 46-year-old shared the news on Instagram after reports started circulating in the Asian media.

In a surprising twist, the A-lister indicated that the pregnancy was unplanned.

‘It is a big surprise, and I am very happy,’ she wrote. ‘Everyone is really excited about it.’

This will be Wei and her husband, director Kim Tae-yong’s, second child. They welcomed their daughter, Summer, in 2016.

People began speculating that Wei was pregnant after she attended a Burberry event on Monday and appeared to be showing a baby bump.

Burberry ambassador Wei attended the event in a relaxed black babydoll dress and a trench coat. However, the loose fit of her clothing didn’t quite hide her stomach area.

Fans were surprised and excited to learn the actress has been cast in a major role in the upcoming Hollywood film by acclaimed South Korean director Park Chan-wook.

Chan-wook, the director famous for the hit film Oldboy, has assembled a star-studded cast for his upcoming movie, The Brigands of Rattlecreek.

The thriller will feature Matthew McConaughey, the Oscar-winning actor, alongside Wei, Austin Butler, and Pedro Pascal.

This film brings together many of the ideas Park Chan-wook has explored throughout his career. It’s a powerful and beautiful movie that makes you think about the impact of violence, what family means, how memories shape us, and what it truly costs to live a life.

Chan-wook made his English-language debut with 2013’s Stoker, starring Nicole Kidman.

Wei previously appeared in Park Chan-wook’s 2022 film, Decision to Leave, which received an Academy Award nomination.

I remember Wei being really good in Blackhat – he acted with Chris Hemsworth, and it was a pretty cool role in that Michael Mann film. It wasn’t his first time around Hollywood, but it definitely stood out to me!

The Hangzhou-born beauty first shot to fame in Ang Lee’s controversial 2007 film, Lust, Caution.

Though the film was a popular and critically praised international success – a steamy spy thriller – it was prohibited in China for many years because of its sexually explicit content.

Wei is now one of Asia’s most popular actresses.

She made history as the first and only non-Korean actress to win Best Actress at the Baeksang Arts Awards, a prestigious South Korean ceremony often compared to the Golden Globes.

Beyond her acting career, Wei is a highly sought-after celebrity in China for promoting brands.

She’s been the face of SK-II skincare for years and made history as Charlotte Tilbury’s first global ambassador.

She also partners with several luxury brands, including the Swiss watchmaker Piaget, Spanish fashion house Loewe, and Chopard and Burberry.
