Wonka 2 Release Date Report Is Exciting for Timothée Chalamet Fans

Warner Bros. is likely working on another movie in the Wonka series, and it sounds like it could be coming out sooner than fans think. This new project could be a big opportunity for a major Hollywood actor.

Wonka 2 could get a 2027 release date

A sequel to the movie Wonka is officially in the works at Warner Bros., and could be released as soon as 2027. According to sources, filming is scheduled to begin in August. Director Paul King revealed in November 2024 that the script was already about halfway finished.

With production beginning in August, a 2027 release for the Wonka sequel is now likely. Warner Bros. had already set aside December 17, 2027, for a family film, and sources believe this date was intended for the sequel.

The studio has scheduled Andy Serkis’ The Hunt for Gollum to be released in December 2027. Warner Bros. is expected to officially announce the film at CinemaCon this week. As of now, there’s no confirmed release date for Wonka 2.

Timothée Chalamet played the quirky chocolatier in ‘Wonka,’ a movie that tells the story before Roald Dahl’s classic 1964 book. The film also featured a talented cast including Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Colman, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, and Hugh Grant. Grant was particularly memorable as an Oompa-Loompa in the musical fantasy directed by Paul King.

The movie Wonka made over $634.5 million globally on a production budget of about $125 million. It tells the story of Willy Wonka’s beginnings as a chocolate maker and his struggles with competing businesses. Critics generally liked the film, giving it an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 66 on Metacritic.

Timothée Chalamet is expected to start work on the next film after finishing “Dune: Part Three” in November. He was also nominated for an Oscar earlier this year for his role in “Marty Supreme.” While he’s still considered for James Mangold’s MotoGP movie, “High Side,” production hasn’t been scheduled yet. Similarly, King is involved with a film based on Labubu, but that project is still in the very early stages of planning.
