Victoria Beckham addresses ‘challenging’ past year amid feud with son Brooklyn and says she will ‘always protect’ her kids in first TV interview since his scathing statement

Victoria Beckham recently opened up about a difficult year, including issues with her son Brooklyn, in a rare television interview.

During an interview on the Today show with Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones, Victoria, 52, spoke about a difficult period for her family. While she didn’t mention her son, 27, by name, she stated she will always prioritize protecting her children.

During the interview, Jenna directly addressed the candidate, acknowledging a difficult year that had been widely publicized. She asked, ‘How do you cope with challenging times?’

She replied: ‘You know, myself and David, we’re so close and we have incredible people around us.

We have a close relationship with both our parents and David’s parents, and we’re always there for each other, supporting one another through life’s challenges and achievements.

As a parent, protecting my kids has always been my top priority, of course. But honestly, a happy home is just as important, and we’re a family who really loves to laugh! My husband, David, is a natural comedian – he truly keeps us all entertained.

In January, Brooklyn publicly announced he was severing ties with his family, stating he doesn’t intend to repair his relationship with his parents and claiming they had controlled him throughout his life.

David and Victoria have not been seen with their son since.

In a recent interview, Victoria shared that she and her husband support each other through difficult periods in their lives.

We always have each other’s backs and have become stronger as a result. I feel incredibly grateful for that shared growth.

We’ve become a strong team, always supporting each other’s goals. We both have big ambitions and genuinely want to see each other succeed and become our best selves.

Following her TV interview, Victoria posted photos with the hosts and a peek at her preparations behind the scenes.

After the interview aired, Brooklyn shared a photo on Instagram with his dogs, seemingly avoiding the ongoing controversy.

Oh my gosh, did you hear what Victoria said? Apparently, she’s really stressing about her kids acting ‘appropriately’ with everything going on with Brooklyn. It’s just… everything! She’s clearly worried about how this whole family drama is looking, and wants them to keep a good face for the public, I guess. It’s just so sad to see, honestly. I’m following every detail!

The Spice Girl was asked about her son before talk turned to her youngest child Harper. 

Victoria described her 14-year-old daughter as a sweet, kind, and hardworking young woman. She also emphasized that her daughter is very well-behaved, which she considers particularly important.

Her comments came after Brooklyn publicly revealed details of a falling out with his mother, Victoria. He alleged that she behaved inappropriately while dancing with him at his 2022 wedding to Nicola Peltz.

She also spoke directly about the conflict, explaining that their children have always been their top priority, and they’ve always strived to be good parents.

Honestly, after all these years – over 30 years of everyone watching us – all we’ve ever cared about is our kids. Protecting them, loving them… that’s it, really. That’s everything to me, and I just want everyone to understand that’s always been our priority.

Victoria was questioned about whether she regrets involving her family – her husband, their four children (Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper), and her parents – in the public eye.

She explained to The Wall Street Journal that while she didn’t feel guilty, her parents did have a difficult time adjusting to the sudden attention – like having paparazzi outside their home. She added that they’ve included their families in their journey every step of the way.

David and Victoria Beckham haven’t had contact with their son Brooklyn since May of last year. This followed Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola Peltz, choosing not to attend David’s 50th birthday party.

Brooklyn and Nicola’s legal representatives sent a letter to the Beckhams’ lawyers, requesting that all future communication go through them directly.

Just before Christmas, Brooklyn cut off contact with his parents on Instagram. Then, in January, he publicly shared a scathing six-page letter on the platform.

He said David and Victoria Beckham exerted a lot of control over him throughout his life, attempted to drive a wedge between him and his wife, Nicola, and caused him humiliation when his mother danced in a way he considered inappropriate at his wedding.

Victoria mentioned that raising young adult and adult children is a very different experience than raising little ones, as she discussed her four children during the interview.

She believes customers are drawn to her product’s quality, not just her personal brand. ‘It’s the product itself that’s really good,’ she explained, ‘not just the fact that it’s me selling it.’
