Uphold now lets eligible U.S. customers trade stocks and ETFs, in addition to cryptocurrencies. This new feature gives access to over 4,000 U.S. stocks and ETFs, and users can pay for trades with either cash or cryptocurrency, all through a simple and easy-to-use platform.
Uphold Expands Into U.S. Stock and ETF Trading
Uphold, a cryptocurrency platform, now lets eligible users in the U.S. trade stocks and ETFs. This new feature gives them access to over 4,000 different securities and broadens what Uphold offers beyond just digital currencies.
With the Uphold app, users can easily buy stocks using either cash or certain cryptocurrencies in one transaction. Investors can even buy fractions of shares, meaning they can start investing with as little as $5, depending on the stock.
Uphold doesn’t directly use cryptocurrencies to buy stocks. When you trade stocks with crypto on their platform, Uphold first changes the cryptocurrency into U.S. dollars, and then uses those dollars to make the stock purchase through a brokerage.
Uphold Securities, a registered and regulated brokerage firm, handles the brokerage services. Before any stock transactions happen, Uphold HQ converts your cryptocurrency into traditional currency.
Uphold also stated that cash-funded stock and ETF purchases carry no trading commission.

Buying things with cryptocurrency still involves fees for converting it to traditional currency, and you might also pay regulatory fees when you sell certain digital assets.
According to Nancy Beaton, head of Uphold U.S., investors are wanting a single place to manage all their investments, including both traditional stocks and digital currencies. This new service simplifies things by letting people avoid moving money between different crypto accounts and brokerage accounts.
Crypto Platforms Continue Expanding Into Traditional Finance
This new offering is part of a growing trend in the cryptocurrency world. More and more crypto companies are starting to offer traditional investment products, like stocks and bonds. Exchanges such as Binance, as we’ve previously noted, are combining crypto services with these regulated investments to appeal to investors who want a mix of different assets.
Unlike some other platforms that offer tokenized stocks, Uphold lets you buy actual shares of stock through a traditional brokerage account. This means you own the real securities, not just digital tokens representing them.
The company is planning to offer stock trading around the clock, five days a week. This would give customers the ability to respond to important news like company earnings, economic data, and events in global markets, even outside of normal U.S. business hours.
Uphold provides digital asset services to users in over 140 countries worldwide.
Right now, the new investment service is only accessible to qualified customers in the U.S.
This expansion supports Uphold’s goal of bringing together crypto and traditional finance in a single app. As more crypto platforms compete, they’re increasingly creating all-in-one investment options that make it easier to access various types of assets while staying compliant with regulations.
