TV chef Melissa Hemsley, 40, welcomes ‘cherished’ second child – after two unsuccessful rounds of IVF and heartbreaking miscarriages

TV chef Melissa Hemsley has welcomed her second child.

The actress, age 40, shared a cute photo of her newborn baby on Instagram Wednesday, calling the little one ‘Our little pink pudding’ in the caption.

Melissa and her boyfriend, Henry Relph, are expecting a baby. They are already parents to their daughter, Summer Eliza, who will be four years old in June.

After two failed IVF attempts, Melissa and her partner welcomed their baby, conceived during their third round of treatment. Melissa had previously shared their journey and the emotional toll of the unsuccessful rounds on social media.

Last October, Melissa announced some joyful news on Instagram. She posted a video of her scan, with her daughter Summer by her side, and shared that another one of their previously frozen embryos had been successfully implanted.

We’re so happy to announce that we’re expecting another baby! Everything is going well so far, and we’re hoping to welcome our little one in the spring.

Thank you for all your support, especially for those going through IVF. We’re grateful to the doctors, nurses, and embryologists who make this journey possible.

Last July, Melissa publicly shared her sadness after a failed embryo transfer, admitting it had upset her for months.

We recently tried IVF for the second time, but unfortunately, it wasn’t successful. The embryo transfer didn’t work, even though our frozen embryo thawed perfectly and I used the same medications that worked when we had our daughter, Summer. We’re heartbroken it didn’t work out this time.

I’ve been feeling down for months, but things are finally starting to look up. I’m so grateful for my wonderful daughter, Summer.

Melissa Hemsley, co-founder of Hemsley + Hemsley with her sister Jasmine, happily announced she is expecting a baby named Summer, saying, ‘It feels like a dream, and I’m so happy to share this journey with you all.’

Okay, so she – she – was talking about trying for a baby, and honestly, it was the most insightful thing ever! She said, and I’m still obsessed with this, that everyone always says ‘it takes a village to raise a baby,’ which, true! But she pointed out it literally takes a whole community just to make one too! Like, all the support, the advice, everything… it’s not just the mom and dad, it’s everyone helping. I just… I need to embroider that quote, seriously. It’s perfect!

In 2021, the chef experienced two miscarriages close together, and she openly shared on Instagram that they had left her feeling completely heartbroken.

With her family getting bigger and bigger, Melissa explained she often worries during holidays and birthdays about whether her family will be the focus next year.

Melissa described the emotional challenge of starting IVF, explaining that you’re told to stay positive and hopeful, but also need to brace yourself for potential failure. It’s a confusing and difficult balance to strike.

She continued: ‘I’m very interested in supporting my mental health as well as my physical health.’

As such, Melissa also shared details of how she looks after her health through food.

The expectant mother explained that nutrition plays a vital role during pregnancy, and can be beneficial whether or not someone is undergoing IVF treatment.

Hormones naturally cause ups and downs – they’re a fundamental part of who we are. Instead of being afraid of these fluctuations, we can recognize that hormones have the power to make us feel great.
