Zero 10, the digital art section of Art Basel, is back for its third year at the upcoming main event. This time, artist Trevor Paglen will be the lead curator, shaping the digital art experience.
This section first appeared at the Miami Beach fair last year and then again in Hong Kong in March. Its first showing in Europe will be its biggest yet, featuring 20 exhibitors from around the world.
I’m really excited about the next edition of this event! It’s being put together with Eli Scheinman, who knows a ton about digital art, and the theme is The Condition. Basically, it’s all about how we’re living in a world totally filled with technology – AI, computers running everything – and what that actually means for us.
I’m really excited about the artists showing at this event! It’s got a ton of creators pushing boundaries with digital art and new media. I’m especially looking forward to checking out Hito Steyerl’s ‘Green Screen’ – it’s a bioelectrical installation and sounds amazing. Also on my list are Avery Singer’s ‘Sh*t Coin Maxi’ and Andreas Gursky’s ‘Ocean V’ – Gursky’s work is always mind-blowing with those huge, detailed composites.
Trevor Paglen, a celebrated artist who has received both the LG Guggenheim Prize and a MacArthur Genius Grant, is known for his powerful work exploring issues like mass surveillance, artificial intelligence, and the influence of the military in the digital world.
According to Paglen, for the past 50 years, artists and researchers have consistently viewed digital technology not just as a tool, but as a unique medium with specific characteristics, potential, and challenges. This understanding has been present from the early experimental work after the war right up to current generative art practices.
This exhibition sparks a discussion between different generations about what it’s like to live in today’s digital world, featuring artists who explored these ideas before they became mainstream.
From June 17th to 21st, Zero 10 will be exhibiting at Messeplatz during Art Basel 2026. You can find tickets and more information about the upcoming Zero 10 on the Art Basel website.
