Taskmaster star’s Channel 4 sitcom branded a “triumph” gets ‘cancelled’ despite BAFTA nomination

Man, I was really enjoying Pushers on Channel 4, but it’s been cancelled after only one season! It’s the sitcom created by and starring Rosie Jones, who you probably know from Taskmaster. She was even nominated for a BAFTA for her performance, which is awesome, but still sucks that the show’s not coming back.

The show Pushers follows Emily, a young woman living with cerebral palsy, who starts dealing drugs after her financial support is cut back.

The film featured performances by Ryan McParland, Jon Furlong, Lynn Hunter, Rhiannon Clements, Ruben Reuter, Libby Mai, Trevor Dwyer-Lynch, and Clive Russell.

Jones and Peter Fellows collaborated on the series, building on their previous work together on the 2022 pilot episode, Disability Benefits.

Channel 4 has confirmed that Pushers will not be returning for another season. In a statement, they expressed their pride in the show and thanked Rosie Jones, Peter Fellows, 2LE Media, and Merman Television for their excellent work. They also stated they hope to collaborate with them on future projects.

What to Read Next

We’re always looking at our TV shows to make sure we have a good variety for our audience. Sometimes, this means deciding to pause, bring back, or end certain programs – which can be tough.

Critics loved the show Pushers. The Independent praised it as a “madcap triumph” and said they would gladly watch many more seasons with these unlikely criminal masterminds working in the charity shop.

The Guardian rated the film three stars, praising its lack of sentimentality and dedication to humor, but noted that Pushers didn’t quite deliver on the sharp satire it initially suggested.

Despite some weak dialogue and predictable moments, Pushers shines in its moments of genuine insight. It’s particularly refreshing to see the show portray disability – and Jones’ character’s sexuality – so naturally and without unnecessary focus.

Pushers is available to stream on Channel 4.
