As many of you know, I’m currently battling stage 4 cancer, and thankfully, my hair is starting to grow back! It’s a really exciting process, but honestly, I’m feeling a little lost when it comes to styling it. So, I’ve been reaching out to you all – my incredible community – for advice! I’m loving hearing your tips and tricks as I navigate this new phase and figure out what works best for me.
As someone who advocates for proactive health, I want to share a bit about my journey. In 2022, I received a melanoma diagnosis, and unfortunately, it later spread to my lungs and brain. It’s been a challenging time, but I’m committed to sharing my experience and raising awareness about the importance of early detection.
On Wednesday, John Mellencamp’s daughter turned to Instagram for advice from her friends who are battling cancer. She wanted suggestions on how to style her hair, which is now much shorter than the long hair she usually has.
She expressed her gratitude for the wonderful wig recommendations she’d received over the past few months. However, she was now facing a new challenge: her hair had grown too long for the wigs, and she was tired of wearing them. With a smile, she asked what her next steps should be.
She joked, ‘Send me your advice!’ but quickly added, ‘I already know I need to get my hair touched up, so no need to mention that one.’
The reality star posted a photo of her shaved head, showing the scars from her surgery, and explained how much her hair is growing back.
The Instagram update comes just weeks after Mellencamp revealed she is exploring a new romance.
‘We’re going to call him Derek,’ she said on her Two Ts in a Pod in early April.
Dating with kids is tough. It’s hard to move beyond the very beginning of a relationship when you both have responsibilities at home and kids living with you.
Mellencamp shared that he’s been careful not to rush things in this new relationship, admitting he usually moves faster. He explained he’s been holding back on sharing certain things, preferring to take things slow.
Tamra Judge then asked, ‘How does he deal with the cancer?’
Mellencamp described him as generally positive and reasonable, adding that he is older than himself.
‘But the thing that I like the most about him is he makes me laugh.’
John Mellencamp and his soon-to-be ex-husband, Edwin Arroyave, share parenting responsibilities for their three children: Slate, age 13, Cruz, age 11, and Dove, age 6.
After reportedly having a months-long affair with horse trainer Simon Schröder while his wife, Karli Postel, was pregnant, her 13-year marriage to Arroyave reportedly ended.
According to reports, Postel discovered text messages on Simon’s phone revealing the affair. When she confronted them, both confessed to it.
Mellencamp explained on The Jamie Kern Lima Show that he’s kept quiet about something because he didn’t want to involve his children.
I’ve never sought to confirm or deny what happened, but I admit I’ve taken actions that caused pain to others.
She admitted the pain from the past still affected her, and she even wondered if it contributed to her cancer, feeling as though it was a form of karmic retribution – that everything comes with a price.
Mellencamp recently shared that she’s considering weight loss medication, as her body has changed while undergoing treatment.
Okay, so I was completely floored when I heard this! Apparently, this amazing health and wellness coach – seriously, I follow all her stuff – revealed on the latest Two Ts in a Pod podcast that she’s battling cancer. She told Dolores Catania, who was guest co-hosting, and honestly, it just broke my heart. I’ve been listening non-stop since, and I’m just sending all my positive energy her way!
I was gaining weight as a side effect of the steroids I was taking for treatment, so I asked my doctor if I could try GLP-1 medications. But he wouldn’t prescribe them.
She expressed her frustration after being denied, adding: ‘Let me live!’
She remembered feeling frustrated at the time, thinking, ‘They tell me to live my best life, but I can’t even get the medication I need.’
‘Live your best life? Where are my GLP-1s?’
In 2022, John Mellencamp received a diagnosis of stage 2 melanoma and has since had over 17 surgeries related to the condition over the past two years.
In February 2025, she shared that she’d had surgery to remove several brain tumors. Later, she confirmed the cancer had advanced to stage 4 and spread to her brain and lungs.
By October 2025, she shared that scans showed ‘no detectable cancer.’
Despite progress, she revealed in January that she continued to struggle with health issues, sharing on her podcast that the treatments – medications and immunotherapy – had been hard on her body.
Last month, Mellencamp shared an encouraging update: tests show no sign of cancer. She is still receiving immunotherapy as part of her treatment.
She shared that a recently started medication caused her to develop Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a rare and severe condition. It usually starts with symptoms similar to the flu and then leads to a painful rash with blisters, as explained by the Mayo Clinic.
