Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow is now filming – here’s all you need to know

Filming for Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to the 2025 Superman movie, has officially started. The film will continue the superhero’s story within the newly relaunched DC Universe.

On Monday, April 20th, James Gunn, the writer and director, announced on Instagram that filming for “Man of Tomorrow” had begun. He shared a photo of a chessboard from the set and simply wrote, “Shooting now.”

When is the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow released?

The upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow, is scheduled to be released on July 9, 2027. Considering Superman is set to premiere globally in July 2025, this would represent a relatively quick two-year gap between releases, if everything goes according to plan.

As a big DC fan, I’m really impressed with how quickly they’re making the sequel! Considering some other DC movies, like The Batman: Part II, might not come out for five years after the first one, a two-year gap feels incredibly fast, especially for a huge movie like this. It just shows how efficiently they’re working!

This is likely because James Gunn has a large role at DC Studios, where he’s co-CEO and co-chairperson with Peter Safran. Being in charge of the entire DC franchise will undoubtedly benefit Gunn’s individual projects, and we’re already seeing that with the upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow.
