Warning! This article contains spoilers for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord episodes 7 and 8.
The final episodes of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord (episodes 7 and 8) build towards the story’s conclusion and also fix a major missed chance from the movie Solo. The end of episode 6 hinted at the arrival of powerful Imperial enemies, potentially even Darth Sidious. Marrok, the Inquisitor tasked with capturing Maul and the Jedi pair, Devon and Daki, asks his leader for instructions on what to do next.
Now, another Inquisitor from Star Wars, the Eleventh Brother, has arrived, leading to several exciting episodes. These episodes build towards a major setup for a dramatic finale. The story is really emphasizing how Sidious betrayed Maul, and the introduction of a familiar Star Wars character suggests a new phase in Maul’s quest to regain his former power.
Okay, so episodes 7 and 8 of Maul – Shadow Lord are absolutely packed with action! We’re talking lightsaber duels, blaster fights, crazy car chases, and even some really unsettling, fear-based hallucinations. And the way it all wraps up? It’s a huge reveal that ties directly into Solo: A Star Wars Story – it totally blew my mind!
Maul – Shadow Lord Episode 8 Finally Sets Up Dryden Vos
The biggest surprise in Solo: A Star Wars Story was the reveal that Darth Maul was the true mastermind behind the criminal organization, Crimson Dawn. Paul Bettany’s character, Dryden Vos, was simply the public figurehead, while Maul secretly controlled everything. Unfortunately, Solo didn’t get any sequels or further stories that explained how Maul rose to power or how he eventually ended up on Malachor as seen in Star Wars Rebels.
The story hinted at for years by the existence of the Maul – Shadow Lord comic series is finally unfolding. The final moments of issue eight strongly suggest this, as Maul receives word that Dryden Vos wants to meet with him. As the series has shown, Maul was betrayed by his partners in the Shadow Collective shortly after the events of Order 66 during Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve always been fascinated by Darth Maul’s journey. It looks like Sate Vos, a character who seemingly switched sides, is going to reappear, and it’s incredibly exciting! We saw in Solo that Maul was secretly pulling the strings behind Crimson Dawn, but the details were always a mystery. Now, with these characters being hinted at in the upcoming Maul – Shadow Lord story, it feels like Solo is finally getting the backstory it deserves. We’re going to learn exactly how Maul rose to power and became the powerful crime lord we saw in that film – and I can’t wait!
Darth Sidious Flashbacks Explained: What Was Maul’s Madness Showing Him?
A key part of episode 8 of Maul – Shadow Lord featured flashbacks experienced by Maul. After suffering an injury and succumbing to familiar feelings of fear, anger, and a desire for revenge – emotions that defined him during the Clone Wars – Maul began to have Force-induced visions of his past. These visions included a memory of his youth, showing him being taken from his home as a teenager, with a young Savage Opress asking why he was being forced to leave.
I was really struck by the scenes of Maul training with Darth Sidious. It was brutal – Sidious actually started electrocuting Maul as punishment! And it happened right after we saw one of Maul’s brothers die in a previous episode. It really got me thinking about what all these flashbacks are trying to tell us about Maul, and what they reveal about who he is as a character.
These flashbacks largely show that Sidious is the root cause of all of Maul’s suffering. If Sidious hadn’t manipulated events, Maul wouldn’t have been separated from his family, subjected to brutal Sith training, seemingly killed by Obi-Wan Kenobi, or driven to madness during the Clone Wars. Maul was only able to escape his lowest point thanks to his burning desire for revenge and the assistance of his brother, Savage.
Another one of his followers had fallen in Maul – Shadow Lord, killed by one of Sidious’s agents, and Maul felt himself slipping back into rage. But remembering that Sidious was the source of all his pain, Maul regained his focus and determination.
How Maul – Shadow Lord Episodes 7 & 8 Set Up The Season Finale
As a huge Star Wars fan, I’m getting seriously excited for the finale of Maul – Shadow Lord dropping on May the 4th! It looks like things are really coming together for Maul. With Vos now in the mix, he’s getting closer to regaining his former power and finally taking down the Empire. Plus, I’ve noticed Devon becoming increasingly sympathetic to Maul, even defying Daki in the last couple of episodes. It feels like she might join him, and honestly, that seems vital to his whole plan. I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!
Maul will probably encounter the Inquisitors again, and might be aided by Devon and Daki. The ending of Maul – Shadow Lord could also see him battle Darth Vader or even Emperor Sidious. If that happens, the situation on Janix could worsen, leaving the Lawsons’ fate uncertain as they continue to try and leave the planet after their unsuccessful escape attempt at the end of episode 8.
The endings of episodes 7 and 8 of Maul – Shadow Lord set up a thrilling finale and hint at a second season for the Star Wars animated series.
