Shows set in the Star Wars universe are incredibly popular on Disney+, currently holding eight of the top ten spots on the streaming service. This surge in viewership likely coincides with the recent release of “The Acolyte” on Monday.
Currently topping the charts is . Following closely behind is , the hit television show that quickly gained popularity after premiering in April.
Once the rankings begin, the original Star Wars movie appears at number three. It’s quickly followed by the three prequel films—though not in the order they were released. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace is fourth, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith is fifth, and Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones is sixth. The remaining films from the original trilogy complete the list, also out of order, with Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi in ninth place and Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back in tenth.
Star Wars is popular on Disney+’s sister service, Hulu, too. The original Star Wars movie is the second most-watched film on the platform, surpassed only by one title. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story ranks fourth, and both films appear in Hulu’s overall top 15. Additionally, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are also among the ten most-watched movies on Hulu.
Finally, Star Wars is also popular for digital rental and purchase. Both Star Wars and Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace are currently in the top 10 most-rented/purchased movies on the Apple TV Store, and Star Wars also appears in the top 10 on Vudu.
Star Wars Was a Dominant Force on Streaming in 2025
Nielsen recently shared streaming data for the Star Wars franchise in 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day. The data shows that Star Wars films and series were streamed a total of 33 billion minutes – equivalent to 550 million hours. Movies made up the largest portion of that total (44.2%), followed by live-action TV shows at 38.9%, and animated series at 16.8%. Documentaries and behind-the-scenes content accounted for the remaining 0.2%.
The original Star Wars, also known as Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, was the most popular film in the group. It was followed by Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Rogue One served as a prequel to the main series.
