The Starship Enterprise from Star Trek is a hugely recognizable spaceship, and it actually makes a brief, hidden appearance in the 2003 reimagining of Battlestar Galactica. While Paramount+ is known as the streaming home for Star Trek, it now also offers all four seasons of Battlestar Galactica, the Battlestar Galactica: The Plan movie, the Caprica spin-off series, and the original Battlestar Galactica miniseries.
Ronald D. Moore’s critically acclaimed remake of Battlestar Galactica started with a miniseries showing the Cylons’ devastating nuclear attack on the twelve colonies of Kobol. Those who survived united under the leadership of Commander William Adama (played by Edward James Olmos) aboard the Battlestar Galactica, and together they formed a makeshift fleet desperately searching for a new planet to call home – Earth.
The first two seasons of Battlestar Galactica focused on the Colonial Fleet, a collection of ships carrying the last remnants of humanity – fewer than 50,000 people. Though many ships appeared in the show’s early years, the design of the Battlestar Galactica clearly drew inspiration from the iconic starship of Star Trek.
Star Trek’s USS Enterprise Makes A Secret Cameo In Battlestar Galactica Reboot
Fans with a keen eye have noticed the USS Enterprise from Star Trek appearing as part of the fleet in the 2003 Battlestar Galactica miniseries. The ship, with its saucer shape and two engine nacelles, is visible in the upper right corner of one of the establishing shots of the Colonial Fleet near the end of the series.
Fans have spotted a hidden appearance of the spaceship Battlestar Galactica in footage of the Starship Enterprise. The discovery was confirmed on the Threads app by user @mc1701d and several others.

Like the many different Cylon models, there have been several versions of the Starship Enterprise throughout the various Star Trek series. The Enterprise seen in Battlestar Galactica is specifically the Constitution Class NCC-1701, the original starship captained by James T. Kirk (played by William Shatner) in Star Trek: The Original Series.
Just because the USS Enterprise made a quick appearance doesn’t mean Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica exist in the same universe. The ending of Battlestar Galactica establishes that its story happens in Earth’s distant past. In contrast, the original Star Trek is Gene Roddenberry’s hopeful look at what the 23rd century could be.
The brief appearance of the Starship Enterprise in Battlestar Galactica is a sweet tribute to the impact of Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek, which has now been around for over 60 years, and shows how much it means to Ronald D. Moore, the creator of the popular Battlestar Galactica reboot.
Why Star Trek’s Original Series Enterprise Appears In Battlestar Galactica
Ronald D. Moore first gained recognition as a writer for the popular Star Trek series, The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, and co-wrote the films Star Trek Generations and First Contact with Brannon Braga. He later became a highly acclaimed science fiction writer and producer in the 21st century, known for successful shows like Battlestar Galactica, Outlander, and For All Mankind.
Ron Moore dreamed of writing for Star Trek: The Next Generation as a longtime fan of the original Star Trek. However, he quickly discovered that during producer Rick Berman’s time, references to the 1960s series were discouraged and often rejected.
I was so excited when Ron Moore got to lead Battlestar Galactica after Star Trek – he really deserved the chance to create his own big sci-fi universe and tell the stories he’d been wanting to. Even though Battlestar was different, you could still feel the influence of Star Trek in it, and that little appearance by the USS Enterprise felt like a sweet way for Moore to acknowledge where he came from and show his love for both shows.
In season 3, episode 6 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the iconic TARDIS from Doctor Who makes a brief appearance, much like the USS Enterprise did in Battlestar Galactica.
The hidden details, or Easter eggs, aren’t just enjoyable for viewers to find—they also showcase the mutual respect and admiration shared by the creators of beloved science fiction shows like Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Battlestar Galactica.
