In simple terms, Squad Busters is set to roll out an exciting update in May 2025, marking their first anniversary. This update will be live on the 13th of May and it’s packed with fresh changes for the matches. They have added Heroes and Squaddies, and there are Pinata Events that offer rewards. Here’s a breakdown of all the details!
Squad Busters May 2025 update: New features and additions explained
Heroes are arriving
I recall the collective astonishment when we learned that Archer Queen and Mortis were to be permanently taken out of the game. But then, two more familiar names were unveiled, leaving us in awe. To our delight, they’re not gone for good; instead, they are making their grand return as Heroes.
In Squad Busters, at the start of each game, it’s up to you to select your character, each with a special ability you can use during combat and a permanent advantage for your team throughout the match. These abilities have cool-down periods, whereas traits are constantly active. You get to choose two abilities to kick off the game.

Beyond that, each character comes with a turbo-charge feature, enabling your team to move quicker. Additionally, some characters have unique dash abilities too. In this update, four new characters are introduced: Barbarian King, Archer Queen, Royal Knight, and Mortis. A fifth character is hinted at, but specifics remain undisclosed as of now.
As a gamer, I’ve got to say that these four characters have their unique approaches to gameplay: Fighter, Hotshot, Supplier, and Summoner each have their distinct styles. Kickstart your adventure by claiming your free starting hero, whether you prefer the regal presence of King or Queen. The other three heroes can be earned through in-game currency or exciting events. Squaddies join the Heroes
As a devoted fan, I’d like to share my perspective on the game’s characters: Heroes form the core of your offensive strategy, but Squaddies are the supportive allies that join in. You can think of them as backup for your heroes. Each Squaddie comes with their unique passive trait, and as they advance, their abilities and powers become more potent.

Gathering identical soldiers enables you to combine them into more powerful versions. Now, when the same soldier appears twice in a battle, they merge on their own. If you happen to have three of the same soldier, it transforms them into a Mega Soldier. Although Mega Units are no longer present, the concept of ‘Mega’ still lingers on.
Soldiers will perish if the Hero falls, so it’s crucial to safeguard your heroes in this battlefield. The progression system for soldiers follows this pattern: from Babies, Classics, Supers, Ultras, all the way to Ultimates. Similarly to heroes, they are categorized according to distinct playstyles.
Hero Journey System

An additional feature to our menu is the Hero Journey System, which enables you to enhance your hero’s abilities, characteristics, and speed boosts using Hero Points, primarily gained from daily missions. During this adventure, you can also uncover skins, emotes, and new team members. Each hero will have their unique journey.
Mega Pinata Event
This gathering mainly emphasizes unleashing a single character, but here’s the catch: The Barbarian King, Archer Queen, and Royal King can be acquired on the day of the update itself. However, to get Mortis, you’ll need to participate in the Mega Pinata event at the moment.
After the game’s update, you’ll find Daily Pinata events integrated into the game a few days later. To unlock these rewards, you’ll need pinata sticks. Use them to smash open pinatas, which may contain Mortis as a drop. Collaborate with your friends by inviting them for pinata groups to expedite your event progress together.
