So, good news for fans of “Spaceballs”! It looks like the sequel isn’t actually going to be titled “Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money” – thankfully! I was a little worried about that one, honestly. It’s nice to know they’re maybe thinking beyond just a quick cash grab.
I was so excited to hear from Mel Brooks at CinemaCon! He cleared up any confusion about the new Spaceballs movie – it’s officially called Spaceballs: The New One. It’s amazing he’s revisiting that galaxy after all this time, and I can’t wait to see what he’s cooked up!
Mel Brooks recently discovered some money he’d forgotten about – earnings from his classic movie “Spaceballs,” actually – and joked that he’s constantly asked by fans when he’ll make a sequel. “Everywhere I go, people ask me, ‘Mel, when are you going to make a new ‘Spaceballs’?'” he explained.
Mel Brooks announced they’ve made another ‘Spaceballs’ movie, titled ‘Spaceballs: The New One.’ He describes it as similar to the original, but updated for a modern audience.
Movies
Mel Brooks’ 1987 film ‘Spaceballs’ playfully parodied the science fiction genre, becoming a cult classic. And now, with many follow-up films made since, it’s experiencing a resurgence in popularity.
Although the plot of the upcoming movie is still a secret, the studio showed a trailer that playfully comments on the changes happening in Hollywood. The trailer features a voice-over saying studios are merging carelessly, and shows the logos of Paramount and Warner Bros. It then jokingly claims the merger between Amazon and MGM Studios is the reason for a sequel to “Spaceballs.”
Dark Helmet has a new look inspired by Kylo Ren from the later “Star Wars” films. The trailer showed battles with lightsabers (or the comedic “Schwartz ring”) and even a quick reference to “Avatar” – Dark Helmet briefly encounters a Na’vi character in the restroom.
The sequel to Spaceballs, titled “Spaceballs: The New One,” is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 23, 2027. Here’s a rundown of what’s been announced about the movie so far.
