At CinemaCon this year, Paramount Pictures showed off the first look at Sonic the Hedgehog 4, revealing that Sonic will be joined by a surprising new teammate. The latest movie in the popular action-adventure series is scheduled to hit theaters on March 19, 2027.

According to Collider, a short clip shown at CinemaCon gave fans their first glimpse of Jim Carrey returning as Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 4. The footage also featured Sonic and his friends, hinting at a surprising team-up: Robotnik now appears to be leading them on a mission to save the world. This is a big change for the villain, who was the main enemy in the previous three Sonic movies.

Jeff Fowler is directing the fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movie, with Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara producing. Based on the popular Sega video game series, the film brings back familiar faces like Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Idris Elba as Knuckles, Keanu Reeves as Shadow, James Marsden as Tom, Tika Sumpter as Maddie, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, and Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone.
