Comedian Sinbad is returning to the stage after recovering from a stroke he suffered in 2020. He announced his comeback on Wednesday, and will be performing at the iconic Ice House in Pasadena for his first show back.
Comedian Sinbad, famous for shows like “A Different World” and “The Sinbad Show,” recently announced his return to stand-up with a video on Instagram, just hours before a sold-out performance. He shared that he was easing back into performing with a couple of shows at the Ice House, and his daughter, fellow comedian Paige Bryan, will be one of the opening acts. He joked that she’s even more outspoken than he is! Comedian Chase Anthony is also scheduled to open for him. His second show is set for May 10th.
The comedian, 69, said this is just the start of his return to performing. He’s excited about the upcoming shows and has a lot of new material, promising to be even more outspoken than before.
Entertainment & Arts
Comedian Sinbad has returned to social media, letting fans know he plans to be more active online. This update comes after he experienced a stroke in 2020.
In 2020, comedian Sinbad suffered a stroke caused by a blood clot that moved from his heart to his brain. His family shared details about his health challenges, surgeries, and recovery on a now-offline website called “The Journey Forward.” According to a statement released in November 2022, Sinbad underwent extensive therapy at the California Rehabilitation Institute and has regained the ability to walk.
After suffering a stroke, Sinbad largely withdrew from public life, but he and his family maintain that he isn’t retiring. He’s hinted at a return in recent years, making a few public appearances, such as a surprise video call during a 2024 reunion of the cast of “A Different World” while they visited historically Black colleges and universities. He was also honored at a tribute during the Netflix Is a Joke Festival that same year.
After appearing in a recent reunion, Sinbad playfully addressed viewers who doubted his return, saying, “Surprised to see me? You should be! Anything can happen.”
In a video posted to Instagram on Wednesday, Sinbad expressed his gratitude to everyone who sent him supportive messages and prayers.
“It worked.”
