- McIlroy joined Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Woods as the only players in tournament history to repeat as champion while securing his sixth career major title
Rory McIlroy made history at the Masters, successfully defending his title and finishing with a total score of 12-under. His final round on Sunday was a 1-under, earning him his sixth major championship. This back-to-back Masters win is something he hasn’t achieved since Tiger Woods did it in 2002. McIlroy had a challenging weekend, losing a significant early lead before regaining control towards the end of the tournament. Although he stumbled with a double-bogey on the fourth hole, he pulled ahead at the famous Amen Corner, making key birdies on the 12th and 13th holes to create a comfortable late lead.
Scottie Scheffler put a lot of pressure on Rory McIlroy throughout the final round, finishing second at 11-under after a score of 4-under 68. His strong play forced McIlroy to fight for every part of his win. Behind them, several players battled for third place. Justin Rose started strong with a two-stroke lead, but struggled with bogeys on the 11th and 12th holes, ultimately finishing at 10-under with a round of 2-under 70.
Cameron Young, Russell Henley, and Tyrrell Hatton joined Rose in a tie for third place. Hatton had a strong finish, shooting 6-under in the final round to dramatically improve his position. Young struggled on Sunday with a 1-over round, slowing down from his earlier excellent play, while Henley finished steadily with a 4-under. Collin Morikawa and Sam Burns tied for seventh at 9-under. Max Homa and Xander Schauffele shared ninth place at 8-under, with Homa closing with an impressive 5-under round. The strong performance of so many players highlighted how difficult it was for the winner to hold onto the lead and maintain the mental strength needed to win.
