Retired high-class escort Amanda Goff aka ‘Samantha X’ reveals her shock career move after being rushed to hospital with a ‘life threatening’ condition
In reading about Amanda’s journey, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of admiration for her strength and resilience. Her tale is one of struggle, self-discovery, and ultimately, triumph. It is a testament to the human spirit’s ability to overcome adversity and find peace within oneself.
Previously recognized as Samantha X, Amanda Goff decided to step away from her high-end escort career over two years ago, aiming to live a life considered ‘ordinary’.
However, on Tuesday, the 50-year-old made it known that she is open for bookings, all while disclosing her surprising career shift.
Once famously recognized as Australia’s top-tier escort, Amanda has now embarked on a new journey, officially starting her career as a qualified Pilates instructor at the iconic Bondi Beach.
Amanda shared on Instagram that it required approximately 100 hours of guided instruction, 100 hours of personal practice, 100 hours of observing others, and a tremendous amount of online research and self-discovery for her to build her confidence.
Today marked a significant milestone for me as I led my inaugural genuine real-life Reformer class at Movement Collective AU.
The freshly established studio, titled Bum Bums Pilates (distinct from Bondi Beach’s equivalent), features a separate Instagram account that facilitates booking individual sessions with the well-known personality.
Continuing her post, Amanda joked the name was ‘on brand’.
If you’re interested in learning ways to improve your body movement, strengthen your core, and alleviate back discomfort, simply send me a direct message, and I’ll arrange an appointment for you!
Pilates involves a series of repeated, coordinated body movements that can be done using a mat or specialized equipment. It’s intended to enhance strength, balance, and flexibility.
It’s also the latest fitness craze to sweep fitness-mad Sydney, particularly Bondi, along with boxing classes and run clubs.
In her business’s first social media post, Amanda stated: ‘I’m 50 years old, I don’t have great flexibility, I can’t reach my toes, I haven’t been a dancer or model, and if you’re expecting elaborate moves in minimalistic workout clothing, this isn’t the place for that.’
She wrote that her studio will be targeted at women over the age of 40 and will specialise in helping with ‘pelvic floor, hip issues, back pain, mental health and connection.’
In an open and heartfelt post, I shared how the exercise transformation profoundly impacted my own life.
This practice keeps me away from alcohol, making me healthier in terms of physical fitness and strength. It brings me happiness, allowed me to depart from my previous profession, and connect with like-minded individuals – my community. I’m eager to assist you!
After Amanda was critically ill and had to be admitted to the hospital due to a serious, potentially fatal health issue in August, she decided on a significant shift in her lifestyle.
The author shared an update to Instagram from her hospital bed after succumbing to the condition.
In a post related to her Pilates training, Amanda disclosed that she had recently received a diagnosis of Non-Sustained Ventricular Tachycardia (NSVT).
As per Very Well Health, NSVT refers to an irregular heartbeat or arrhythmia that originates from the heart’s lower chambers, specifically the ventricles.
The situation can be hazardous, especially when it leads to an abnormal heart condition known as Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT), characterized by rapid or irregular heartbeats, as explained by the Mayo Clinic.
She shared that she faced certain difficulties and needed to have a surgical procedure done at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney.
She shared a crucial message, “Friends, this post is vital for you all. I’ve recently been diagnosed with a heart issue called NSVT/SVT. This condition can be severe, potentially life-threatening, but it is also treatable.
‘It’s all happened very fast – diagnosed Friday, in surgery Monday. NEVER ignore any symptoms. Mine were feeling faint and almost blacking out after exercise.’
She went on to say, “Originally, I was scheduled to fly to Canada today. However, I find myself in the cardiac ward at St. Vincent’s Hospital instead. Non-sustained ventricular tachycardia (NSVT) is the reason behind sudden deaths and cardiac arrests.
‘I consider myself fortunate that I discovered this issue before it became worse rather than later on. My intuition about something being off prompted me to get it examined. The lesson here is, always pay heed to what your body might be signaling you – never dismiss its warnings.’
Dear Ladies, please do not brush off feelings of dizziness by attributing them to hormones or your menstrual cycle. If this sensation persists, it’s important to seek medical attention immediately.
Goff went on to explain what the future holds for her in terms of ongoing treatment.
She mentioned that under the best circumstances, she could manage her life normally with medication, but in the worst-case scenario, she might require a defibrillator.
The podcaster and journalist has made a significant change in her career path, moving away from the field that brought her widespread recognition about two years back.
Goff’s drinking problem creeped up on her.
Previously, she’d often consume an entire bottle of champagne during a night out, lose consciousness, create havoc, and find herself regretting her actions so deeply the following morning that she’d contemplate ending her life. (Paraphrased from your original sentence)
Back in an interview with Daily Mail Australia in December, she shared that her association with alcohol had lasted for a decade. However, she described the final three to four years as utterly absurd.
She admitted, “When I used to drink, I’d create complete mayhem. I’d pass out drunk each time, and I can’t help but wonder how I’ve managed to survive.
She would wake up with strange bruises and a patchwork memory of the night before.
‘I would be aggressive and start fights – I was completely dead inside,’ she said.
She was overwhelmed with harmful ideas, enduring prolonged headaches that lasted for days – always vowing it wouldn’t happen again.
Only to wind up in the same position a week later.
She admitted, “I never started my day with a drink. Instead, I struggled with binge drinking. Over time, I found myself consuming alcohol nearly every weekend.
Goff’s loved ones recognized her struggle with alcohol long before she herself was aware, and they were deeply concerned about her wellbeing.
She began to realize that others she recognized, who lived a wild nightlife like her, were either taking their own lives or meeting untimely deaths in tragic accidents.
She admitted, “I realized that my continued drinking would lead to a tragic end, and it filled me with terror. I didn’t want to meet such an end, and I felt as though I was slipping away from the control of my own life.
‘I also didn’t want to be the 60-year-old propping up the bar.’
For a period of approximately six months, Amanda, then employed under the name Samantha X, repeatedly attempted but ultimately failed to break free from her lifestyle as a social butterfly.
She had once feared that her social life and enjoyment would vanish permanently, but it turned out to be a false concern. It doesn’t matter what someone is drinking.
‘So I kept going back to it.’
One morning, she found herself in a hotel room in Melbourne – gazing towards the window and suddenly understanding why it didn’t open.
‘I was hungover and felt the urge to jump,’ she said.
She said she was drinking to ‘deal with decisions’ she had made.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I can attest that quitting alcohol isn’t just a matter of sheer willpower; it’s a complex challenge due to its highly addictive nature and widespread availability. In fact, it’s often referred to as one of the most addictive and dangerous substances globally.
She called her friend that day and she took her to a 12 step recovery meeting.
It has been five years and she hasn’t picked up alcohol since.
In all honesty, I yearned for life in every breath I took. Truth be told, there had been moments when I contemplated taking my own life, stepping into the path of an oncoming vehicle, or letting myself get swept away by a whirlwind romance – but I chose to stay.
As a die-hard fan, I’d say Amanda managed to steer clear of rehab and hospitals due to her alcohol struggles thanks to her unwavering commitment to the program. If she hadn’t stayed the course, though, I can only imagine where she might have ended up.
In recovery she learned to face the problems she had been trying to numb out with alcohol.
After several years of being clean, her psychologist was also able to determine that she had Bipolar Disorder. She went on to explain that individuals with bipolar tend to resort to substances like drugs and alcohol as a means of self-medication. This is because these substances can help them numb their emotions.
She confessed, “I found it unbearable to be alone with my thoughts. I wanted to transform my life, but I was struggling to understand why I felt this way.
‘I was a mess and I feel really sad for the person I was.’
Amanda believes she is a better person inside and out since ditching booze.
‘I used to have a huge temper but haven’t raised my voice in years,’ she said proudly.
‘I make better choices now.’
Amanda says people ‘all have something’ they are addicted to.
Regardless of whether it’s buying things, having intimate moments, physical activities, substance use, or working, people often engage in these activities as a means to conceal what they might be feeling internally.
2022 saw Amanda confessing to Stellar Magazine that she feels embarrassed about her past profession. She admitted to altering her lifestyle significantly following a diagnosis of bipolar II disorder.
As the mist lifts, she confessed feeling remorseful about certain decisions, particularly those concerning revealing personal matters.
‘I don’t recognise the woman who did that and it’s mortifying for me.’
She went on: ‘I am not blaming my bipolar or saying it was all down to my bipolar at all. But would I have made those choices if I was diagnosed and medicated? Most likely I wouldn’t have been so public about it’.
Amanda expressed that developing her persona, Samantha X, served as a method for her to cope with specific traumatic experiences in her past. She also mentioned that when she tapped into this aspect of herself, it felt like she was ‘performing’.
‘In other words, it’s possible to maintain fitness, abstain from alcohol, and follow all the healthy habits, but never let your guard down. If you have even a slight inkling that something may be amiss within your body, don’t hesitate to seek medical advice immediately. Your body rarely deceives you.’
‘Thank you to Dr Jordan McGrath from NSW Cardiology & Prof Rajesh Subbiah at St Vincent’s Clinic.’
