Peep Show star Matt King is rushed to hospital after rare spinal stroke leaves him paralysed

Matt King, known for his role in the TV show Peep Show, is in the hospital after a rare spinal stroke caused paralysis.

The actor, famous for playing Super Hans in the popular Channel 4 comedy, said he was receiving treatment at the Royal Sussex Hospital after an incident on Thursday.

He shared an update from the hospital, explaining that he suffered a rare stroke affecting his spinal cord on Sunday. He initially lost the ability to move, but quickly received care at The Royal Sussex County Hospital, where the staff have been fantastic.

I can walk a little now, though my legs were really weak. It didn’t feel great, honestly. I really appreciate all the support and kind messages.

Robert King, age 58, is well-known for his role as Super Hans in the popular comedy series Peep Show. The show, a cult favorite, starred David Mitchell and Robert Webb and was created by Andrew O’Connor, Jesse Armstrong, and Sam Bain.

The show centered around the very relatable roommates Mark and Jez, portrayed by David and Robert, and was filmed using a distinctive perspective.

These two friends, complete opposites of each other, first met while attending the fictional Dartmouth University. They later shared a flat in a building called Zodiac House in South London.

Mark owns the apartment and often complains that Jeremy doesn’t pay rent and mistreats the property, preferring to smoke marijuana and avoid getting a job.

Super Hans was a beloved character, famous for his funny, unpredictable lines and chaotic actions.

Before becoming an actor, King worked as a chef in Australia and befriended comedian Jimeoin McKeown. McKeown inspired him to try stand-up comedy.

Okay, so this guy, he’d been grinding it out as a comedian for FIFTEEN years, can you believe it? And then, at the Edinburgh Fringe, the creators of Peep Show – the geniuses behind Super Hans, honestly! – they saw him and were like, ‘That’s it! That’s our Super Hans!’ It was fate, I tell you, absolute fate! They knew instantly he was perfect for the part. I mean, seriously, perfect!

The show’s creator, Sam, had originally written the role with Danny Dyer in mind, as he revealed back in 2018.

The role made King well-known, leading to appearances in popular shows like Skins, Doctor Who, and Paddington, as well as the series Spirited and The End of the Fing World. He also wrote a sitcom called Whites, which starred Alan Davies.
