I’m so excited to hear that John Partridge is going to be playing Hannibal Lecter on stage! It’s such an iconic role, famously played by Anthony Hopkins in the movie and Mads Mikkelsen on TV in Hannibal. I’m really curious to see what John will bring to it – it’s a tough act to follow, but I have a feeling he’ll be amazing!
The show will premiere on August 1st at the Curve Theatre in Leicester, then tour the UK and Ireland. The final performance will be at the Empire Theatre in Sunderland on June 26, 2027.
The play follows FBI trainee Clarice Starling as she seeks the help of the brilliant but dangerous psychiatrist and murderer, Hannibal Lecter. The hope is that Lecter’s insights will lead to the capture of a new, brutal serial killer known as Buffalo Bill.

With another young woman disappearing, the pressure is on. But Dr. Lecter is full of questions, forcing Clarice to make a dangerous choice: maintain her professional distance, or risk letting the notorious Hannibal Lecter delve into her mind?
Partridge expressed his excitement about being cast in the role, saying it’s a rare opportunity to play a character whose name alone is breathtaking. He feels deeply honored and plans to fully enjoy the experience.

The lead role will be played by a star from EastEnders, and the script is being written by Gina Gionfriddo, who has worked on House of Cards and Law and Order. The script is based on the book of the same name by Thomas Harris.
Nikolai Foster, the artistic director of Curve, will direct The Silence of the Lambs. He stated that playing a character like Hannibal Lecter demands courage, determination, and a willingness to explore the darkest aspects of human nature.
It’s been truly inspiring to work with John on this role. He has amazing instincts, and he’s the perfect actor to portray Thomas Harris’s most terrifying character in our first-ever stage production.
The full creative team and further casting details are yet to be announced.
