Patrick Muldoon, a familiar face from shows like ‘Days of Our Lives,’ ‘Melrose Place,’ and the movie ‘Starship Troopers,’ has passed away at the age of 57. He was also a producer.

According to his sister, Shana Muldoon Zappa, Frank Muldoon was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor by his girlfriend. He hadn’t come back after getting coffee and going to shower, and she went to check on him when he was gone longer than usual.

According to reports, he died from a combination of a blood clot in his lungs and a hereditary condition affecting how his blood clotted – either causing too much or too little clotting.

Born and raised in San Pedro, Muldoon was a football player, first in high school and then at USC, where his teams won two Rose Bowls. He came from a very athletic family – his relatives were all lifeguards – which he said created a highly competitive atmosphere growing up. Though a talented player, Muldoon realized professional football might not be the best fit after consistently being tackled by the powerful Junior Seau, who went on to have a long and successful NFL career with the Trojans and beyond. This led him to consider a career in acting instead.

Despite his success in films like “Starship Troopers,” Muldoon continued to prioritize staying active and fit.

Patrick Muldoon is known for a diverse range of roles – from being dramatically killed off as a soldier in “Starship Troopers” to playing both the charming Austin Reed on “Days of Our Lives” and the villainous Richard Hart on “Melrose Place.”

After retiring from football, I felt a bit lost, so I took up boxing and martial arts. Football was a huge part of my life, and when it ended, I really missed the challenge and competition it provided.

Then there was the Hollywood fear factor to motivate him.

He explained that receiving a script for ‘Days of Our Lives’ with a line like ‘Austin takes his shirt off in five days’ is a strong incentive to get in shape. It motivates him to work out and eat healthy, knowing a shirtless scene is coming up, he told The Times.

Having appeared in almost 100 films and TV shows, Muldoon also worked behind the scenes as a producer on over a dozen projects. These included the crime comedy film “Riff Raff,” featuring Jennifer Coolidge, Ed Harris, Gabrielle Union, and Bill Murray, and the documentary “Made in the USA: The 30 Day Journey.”

Muldoon was cremated Tuesday, according to People.
