Lots of well-known movies are being remade or are getting new installments. After considering it for a while, Paramount Pictures has confirmed they’re making a sequel to…
The 2013 movie was a huge hit, becoming the most financially successful zombie film ever made. Because of this, the studio, Paramount, immediately wanted to make a second one, but it didn’t pan out. Later, the film’s star, Mireille Enos, discussed the possibility of World War Z 2 in an interview.
World War Z 2 Is Not in Production Yet
The actress, while promoting her current project, spoke about her role as Karin Lane, the supportive wife of Brad Pitt’s character, Gerry. She mentioned that Paramount has considered making a sequel to the film since its release in 2013 and has received several different script ideas over the years.
Enos said there’s been talk of a sequel for the last 15 years, and he’s cautiously optimistic. While his character was part of previous discussions about a second World War Z film, he doesn’t have any confirmed details right now.
The actress expressed her desire for a World War Z sequel, ideally featuring her character. However, she admitted she currently has no information about whether another film is in development. She added that it would be fantastic to reprise her role and work with Brad Pitt again if a sequel does happen.
Enos’ recent comments suggest a sequel is being considered, but it’s in the very beginning stages, especially if the original cast members are involved. While Paramount hasn’t revealed any specifics about the sequel, it seems likely they’d want to include the original actors somehow. If that happens, coordinating everyone’s busy schedules will take a significant amount of time before filming can begin.
World War Z 2 Has a Troubled History
The movie World War Z, based on the 2006 book by Max Brooks, centers around Gerry Lane, a former UN investigator. After becoming caught up in a global zombie outbreak, Lane is contacted by the UN to help find a solution and ultimately, a cure.
The movie went through many changes over a long period of time. Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B, first obtained the rights to make it back in 2007. Initially, J. Michael Straczynski was brought on to write the screenplay, with Marc Forster set to direct. Later, in 2009, Matthew Michael Carnahan was hired to revise the script. The project faced further delays, and Damon Lindelof joined to rewrite the final part. When he couldn’t finish in time, Drew Goddard, known for his work on The Martian and Project Hail Mary, was brought in to complete the script.
The film earned $540 million globally, leading Paramount to consider a sequel—though one has never materialized. In 2017, a sequel almost came to fruition when director David Fincher, known for his work with Brad Pitt on films like Se7en and Fight Club, was brought on board, with Pitt set to reprise his role.
World War Z 2 doesn’t have a release date.
