Oscar Isaac is starring in a new Netflix drama series about the competitive world of modern Las Vegas casinos. The show, produced by Martin Scorsese, is the first project to come from a new collaboration between Netflix and Isaac’s production company, Mad Gene.
The series is creatively driven by showrunners Brian Koppelman and David Levien, the team behind shows like Billions and Super Pumped. They wrote and executive produced this eight-episode season. The story centers on Isaac “Bobby Red” Redman, a casino president who must take big risks to protect his casino in a dangerous, modern city.
J.C. Chandor will direct the first two episodes and also serve as an executive producer, adding significant creative strength to the show. He joins a team of established producers including Martin Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions, Julie and Rick Yorn of Expanded Media, Paul Schiff, and Beth Schacter. Unlike many shows about casinos, this series will focus on how the Las Vegas strip operates today, rather than recreating the past.
This show is a key part of a larger deal between Netflix and Mad Gene, the production company led by Isaac, Elvira Lind, and Gena Konstantinakos, giving Netflix the first opportunity to develop their projects. As production begins, this series continues Isaac’s successful partnership with Netflix, following projects like Season 2 of BEEF and the upcoming In the Hand of Dante.
