As a seasoned tennis enthusiast who has witnessed the rise and fall of legends in this sport, I must say that what I saw today was nothing short of extraordinary. Novak Djokovic, a player I’ve followed since his early days, displayed an indomitable spirit that only a true champion possesses. His victory over Carlos Alcaraz at the Olympics was a testament to his resilience and unparalleled skill.

On Sunday evening in Paris, Novak Djokovic, beaming with pride, sported his newly-earned Olympic gold medal while relishing an evening out, mere hours after securing a historic victory at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Overjoyed by his win against Carlos Alcaraz, the Serbian kept a perpetual grin on his visage, strolling towards his triumphant gathering at Siena restaurant, nestled within the heart of Paris.

Novak achieved the Career Golden Slam by winning Wimbledon, the French Open, the US Open, the Australian Open, and an Olympic gold medal, making him one of only five tennis players to do so.

The tennis champion couldn’t help but express his joy, proudly adorning his freshly won medallion around his neck.

It appeared to be a star-studded evening as Novak was joined at the celebrations by British actor Damson Idris.

While basketball star Jayson Tatum was also in attendance.

As an over-the-moon fanatic, I couldn’t help but spot Novak, casually dressed in a brown polo, tan pants, and pristine white sneakers, making a grand entrance at that swanky eatery. You wouldn’t believe it, but he was surrounded by his amigos! Simply amazing!

I, overjoyed and fervent, found myself surrounded by a sea of admirers, their enthusiasm palpable, as I proudly brandished the Serbian flag, marching towards my destination with every heartbeat echoing theirs.

After he shed tears of joy on the red soil of Roland Garros, having at last clinched an Olympic title by outplaying Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz with scores of 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2), a significant gap in his tennis resume was finally filled – the missing piece to what is considered the most detailed and exhaustive CV in tennis history.

The match was an intense battle, witnessed by approximately 15,000 spectators. After a grueling 2 hours and 50 minutes, it was difficult not to empathize with the loser, though he might better be described as a hero, as Alcaraz’s silver medal offered little immediate comfort.

At the age of 21, he wept as well, yet it was due to deeper sorrows compared to his conqueror. However, another opportunity for him to prevail is on the horizon. (Paraphrased)

It wasn’t likely for Novak to make such a guarantee, considering he would turn 41 in Los Angeles in 2028. The awareness of having a set timeline certainly influenced the way he celebrated.

Following his fall onto the court’s clay surface, he found himself seated in his chair, shedding tears before embracing the Serbian flag given to him. He ascended the stands of Court Philippe-Chatrier to embrace his wife, Jelena, and daughter, Tara, who was six years old at the time.

Tara may not be able to absorb the full extent of her father’s accomplishment yet, but she can be proud that he stands as one of only five greats to have pulled off the career ‘Golden Slam’ of Wimbledon and the French, US and Australian Opens – and Olympic gold.

In 1998, Steffi Graf joined by Andre Agassi in 1999, followed by Rafael Nadal in 2010, and Serena Williams in 2012, are some of the other tennis greats who achieved significant milestones.

In about three out of every four Olympics I’ve participated in, I didn’t make it past the semi-finals. However, I managed to win a bronze medal at the Beijing Games. Furthermore, the honor of carrying the Serbian flag during the opening ceremony in London (2012) was an incredibly memorable and rewarding experience for me personally.

‘I didn’t know until today that there’s even a better feeling – winning a gold for your country.

‘This supersedes everything that I’ve ever felt on the tennis court. It’s incredible joy.’

Surprisingly enough, I found myself victorious amidst the challenges of a damaged meniscus sustained during the French Open in June. Through every match at the Olympics, I relied on a sturdy knee support on my right leg.

Instead of undergoing a comprehensive surgical repair that includes sewing up the affected region and using a knee brace for several weeks, he opted for smoothing out the area using a ‘duckbill punch’ instrument.

In his recent victory against Stefanos Tsitsipas during the quarterfinals, he required medical attention for a sudden worsening of his condition. Being an enthusiast who thrives on breaking records, it would have taken a great deal to deter him. Now, he’s moving with greater ease compared to how he struggled in the Wimbledon final against Alcaraz, where he was quickly outmaneuvered.

On Sunday, they both found it incredibly challenging. Neither managed to break each other’s service throughout the game, even with numerous opportunities. It was extremely close.

In my perspective as a devoted follower, Alcaraz’s ingenuity, vigor, and agility make him truly exceptional – no challenge seems insurmountable given his athletic prowess. His forehand is reminiscent of an Exocet missile in speed and impact; it’s hard to find a more lethal weapon on the tennis court. Adding to this, his skillful dropshots are not easy to counter, making him a formidable opponent indeed.

After that, you encounter Djokovic – he’s an unyielding barrier, leaving you in awe of his tenacity and skill on the court. Just like young Tara’s banner reads: “Dad is number one.”

He’s certainly the flintiest, and that may amount to pretty much the same thing.
