Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson might have to pay millions of dollars after their previous workplace filed a lawsuit against them.
KIIS FM’s parent company, the Commonwealth Broadcasting Corporation (owned by ARN Media), is now suing the radio show’s former breakfast hosts.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, KIIS is seeking financial compensation from Henderson and Sandilands for lost advertising income, claiming this resulted from a violation of their $200 million, ten-year contracts.
CBC is reportedly not only defending itself against claims made by Henderson and Sandilands, but is also seeking to have them cover its legal fees.
I can’t believe it! Those court papers just dropped, and apparently Henderson and Sandilands actually cost the radio station money! Like, real money – advertising and profits! They’re saying it’s all because they broke their contracts. Honestly, it’s a disaster, and I’m just devastated to hear it. I always thought they were golden, but this… this is awful!
ARN claims its agreement with Sandilands’ company, Quasar Media, lets them recover almost 88% of a $3 million signing bonus.
This could result in Quasar Media – the company Kyle Sandilands used to provide services for The Kyle & Jackie O Show – having to pay back $2,637,600.
New details have surfaced this week about the dramatic split between Sandilands and Henderson, revealing court documents that claim he told her to either “get your act together” or “don’t bother returning.”
Before their well-publicized on-air fight that led to the cancellation of their popular morning show, there was a heated argument behind the scenes months earlier.
Court documents filed Tuesday reveal a dispute began at the KIIS FM studios in Sydney after something happened on the radio station’s broadcast last year.
Court filings submitted by CBC indicate that the long-standing friendship – built over two decades of working together on the air – had actually begun to fall apart months before, following a major disagreement backstage in September of last year.
The CBC claims Sandilands spoke disrespectfully to Henderson during a live argument, an event she also mentioned in her legal complaint against the network.
But the argument didn’t stop when the microphones were switched off.
According to court documents, Henderson reportedly said to Kyle, “That’s a bit harsh, I haven’t done anything to deserve that.”
Sandilands reportedly responded with a harsh retort: ‘Let’s be honest, this is the first time you’ve ever bothered to help out or contribute anything at the beginning, and frankly, it’s terrible.’
According to the documents, the argument escalated, and the two individuals began using extremely vulgar language, telling each other to ‘go away’.
Sandilands reportedly made the situation worse by criticizing Henderson, claiming she was overly protective and didn’t prioritize the show enough.
He reportedly told the person not to return until they could handle things responsibly and with self-control.
In legal filings, Sandilands stated he felt he had been solely responsible for the program’s success for a year, and that his worries were dismissed by newsreader Brooklyn Ross and other colleagues whenever he voiced them.
‘I’m just left here with a limp d**k in my hand,’ Sandilands allegedly added.
After five months, Sandilands and Henderson’s working relationship ended suddenly. The split followed a heated argument on the radio where Sandilands criticized Henderson, leaving her visibly upset and in tears.
Both Kyle Sandilands and Jackie Henderson have filed lawsuits against their previous employer, claiming they were unfairly dismissed. Sandilands is seeking $85 million in damages, while Henderson is asking for $82 million.
These surprisingly high amounts are what the two individuals claim they are still owed after their contracts were cancelled. Those contracts had previously paid them around $10 million each year.
Okay, so from what I’ve gathered, the CBC is basically saying Don Cherry’s whole firing was because Ron MacLean’s co-host, Sandilands, created such a horrible work environment that Henderson never wanted to be around him again! It’s like, Sandilands was the real problem, not Don! I knew it! Everyone always focused on Don, but this makes it sound like Sandilands was the one making things unbearable. It’s just…wow. This totally changes everything!
The company states that Sandilands’ damaging of his relationship with Ms. Henderson resulted from his repeated bullying and harassment of her, which she had previously reported. They claim this behavior was a significant violation of his employment contract.
The company strongly denies Sandilands’ claim that his firing was illegal and also refutes Henderson’s statement that she was let go for requesting a safe and healthy work environment.
Honestly, I’ve been following Kyle for years, and all this talk about him breaking rules is just… ridiculous. Apparently, the people at ARN are claiming he didn’t follow their safety guidelines, their code of conduct, and even their rules about treating people with respect. It just feels like they’re trying to find anything to get at him, you know? It’s so frustrating!
The February on‑air explosion is also alleged to have breached the NSW Work Health and Safety Act.
The CBC also maintains that their contract was for Henderson to work with Sandilands, as a co-host, and they weren’t required to find her another time to host a show on her own.
The company argues that her decision to stop working with him violated the terms of her contract.
