Netflix’s Unchosen Defeats Running Point & Beef to No. 1

Netflix boasts several popular series, and in April, both Running Point and another show returned for their second seasons. However, a newly released program quickly gained more attention.

Psychological thrillers are increasingly popular, and Netflix offers a wide selection. The newest addition, Unchosen, quickly rose to the top of the charts after its release on April 21st, preventing Running Point and Beef from reaching the number one spot.

Beef & Running Point Have a New Common Enemy

The first season, released in 2023, was a huge success with both critics and audiences, earning multiple Emmy Awards and almost perfect reviews. The story centers on two people from very different worlds whose near-miss car accident quickly turns into a dangerous chase and a bitter, ongoing rivalry.

Season 2 of Beef brought in a new cast – Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny – to carry on the show’s dramatic conflicts, after Steven Yeun and Ali Wong weren’t involved. Although released on April 16th, the new season started with relatively low viewership, ranking tenth with 2.4 million views and 14.1 million hours streamed in its first week.

During its second week, the show reached 4.1 million viewers and accumulated 23.8 million hours of watch time, placing it third overall. However, these numbers were still significantly lower than those of the first part.

The show also premiered on April 23rd, landing in second place with 5.3 million views and a total of 25.2 million hours watched. Critics generally liked it more than the first season, as it continued to follow the LA Waves basketball team’s journey to win a championship.

The show was quickly renewed after its 2025 premiere. While it started strong with 9.3 million views – nearly double the audience of its second season – Netflix hasn’t yet confirmed its future.

Unchosen Has Been a Major Hit

The shows Beef and Running Point gained popularity at a significant moment, captivating a large audience. Beef premiered with 10.4 million views in its first week, followed by 46.9 million views, quickly becoming the most-watched show in 40 countries worldwide, including the United States.

Unchosen tells the story of Rosie, a woman and mother living within a strict religious community. The community forbids contact with people outside their group, whom they consider ‘unchosen.’ When Rosie’s daughter runs away, she meets someone new, causing her to begin re-evaluating her beliefs and way of life.

The thriller series has received a mixed reception, with critics giving it a 70% approval rating while audiences are less impressed at 42%. Created by Julie Gearey, the show features Molly Windsor as Rosie, Adam, and Fra Fee as Sam.
