Now that Stranger Things has finished, a new sci-fi series on Netflix is quickly gaining popularity as a great option for fans. While the fifth and final season of Stranger Things received some criticism – as often happens with series finales – the show consistently delivered high quality, especially with the widely praised fourth season.
Now that Stranger Things has finished, the actors are moving on to new roles. Sadie Sink, for example, has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and many others have announced their next projects. Luckily for fans of the show, Netflix will soon release a new science fiction series that might fill the void left by Stranger Things – it’s coming out in just a couple of months.
Stranger Things’ Replacement Gets First Look And Will Debut Soon
Netflix is creating several new shows set in the world of Stranger Things. Considering how popular the original series has been – it consistently ranks among Netflix’s most-watched shows – it was expected that the franchise would expand. The first of these spinoffs will be an animated series called Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, which is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on April 23, 2026.
Netflix has dropped the first trailer for Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, giving us a look at a brand-new monster from the Upside Down. This creature hasn’t been seen in the main Stranger Things series and appears in the animated spinoff. The events of this animated series fit into the timeline between seasons 2 and 3 of the original show.
Why Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 Is The Netflix Series’ Perfect Replacement?
Netflix has three sci-fi shows planned for 2026: season 2 of 3 Body Problem, The Boroughs, and a new series created by the Duffer Brothers (the creators of Stranger Things). While these shows might appeal to fans of Stranger Things as it comes to a close, none of them are quite the same as the original hit.
What could follow up the original Stranger Things better than Stranger Things: Tales from ’85? This animated series is not only the first spin-off, but it also brings back all our favorite characters – Eleven, Mike, Hopper, Max, Steve, and others – just a few months after the main show finished. If you’re already missing them, this 2026 series is the perfect solution.
Some viewers might think Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 feels familiar, but the animation style and the chance to see the characters as children offer a nostalgic and new perspective. Plus, it finally lets us see a snowy Hawkins and introduces exciting new monsters. This prequel format works much better than another season released so quickly after the main show would have.
