Netflix’s Hit Adaptation Of Bestselling 21-Book Series Is Dominating Streaming After Long-Awaited Return

The popular Netflix series Virgin River is back on top of the streaming charts after the premiere of its seventh season on March 12th.

Netflix’s popular drama, Virgin River, based on the 21-book series by Robyn Carr, is back with season 7. After a year and a half since season 6, viewers can once again visit the charming town in Northern California and catch up with Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan, who have recently gotten married.

As usual in Virgin River, Mel and Jack’s happiness after getting married is quickly disrupted. The disappearance of Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) and a worried pregnant woman cause trouble in town. Viewers were eager to catch up with the show’s characters and community, and it quickly became a top 10 hit on Netflix in both the US and around the world, just one day after the new season premiered.

The show Virgin River quickly became popular on Netflix, landing at number two on the US TV chart on March 13th. It remained in second place on March 14th, only trailing the Love Is Blind season 10 reunion special, which launched on March 11th—two days before Virgin River‘s seventh season premiered.

As a total TV fan, I’ve been keeping an eye on the charts, and Virgin River made a splash! It jumped into the Top 10 on March 13th, landing at number four. But it didn’t stop there – by March 14th, it had climbed to third! It’s right behind two other big hits: the Netflix documentary The Dinosaurs, which dropped on March 6th, and the second season of One Piece, that awesome live-action adaptation, which came back on March 10th.

The recent strong performance of Virgin River isn’t a shock, as the show has been a consistent hit for the streaming service. In fact, it was renewed for season 7 even before season 6 began, and season 8 was confirmed well ahead of the latest episodes being released on Netflix.

Details about season 8 of Virgin River are still scarce, but showrunner Patrick Sean Smith has confirmed two key actors won’t be returning. Lauren Hammersley, who plays Charmaine – a character many viewers feel deserves a fresh start – and Marco Grazzini, who plays detective Mike Valenzuela, will both be leaving the show. Mike’s relationship with Brie (Zibby Allen) comes to an end in season 7.

Smith also mentioned that the actors could reappear in future seasons if their return made sense for the show’s ongoing stories and fit with the rest of the cast. If seasons 7 and 8 of Virgin River continue to be successful, renewal for a ninth season seems likely, especially considering there are 21 books the show can adapt.

Virgin River season 7 is now streaming on Netflix.
