Neil Patrick Harris and his husband, David Burtka, brought their twins, Gideon and Harper, along with them to a recent red carpet event, making a rare family appearance.
Neil Patrick Harris, the 52-year-old actor known for How I Met Your Mother, attended the opening night of The Lost Boys on Broadway with his husband, 50, who is also an actor, and their 15-year-old twin children.
Neil is a co-producer and investor in the musical, which is based on a classic vampire movie from the 1980s.
I was so impressed with how well Tony and David put together their family’s look for the show at the Palace Theatre! They and their kids all wore these really cool, coordinated outfits with a bold black and red theme – it was a fantastic statement and showed how much thought they put into the evening.
The actor known for playing a Smurf wore a red blazer with a black T-shirt and jeans. His companion, David, was dressed entirely in black, accented by a red tie.
Giden chose a black suit with a red and black checkered shirt. Harper, meanwhile, wore a red mini dress, a sheer black top, and a fluffy black coat.
Oh my gosh, you guys, Neil and David were radiant! Seriously, seeing them on the red carpet in New York with their adorable twins just melted my heart. They’ve been married since 2014, and they looked so happy and proud – it was the cutest family moment ever! I couldn’t stop smiling when I saw the pictures.
Almost two years ago, Neil and David shared how much they love being fathers, and mentioned their teenage children’s friends jokingly call them the ‘coolest parents’ among their group.
In 2024, as their children entered their teens, Neil told People that things were going really well with them.
These kids are really impressive. Growing up in Manhattan, they seem quite mature for their age – they’re only thirteen – and it’s great to watch them explore the world as teenagers, confident and self-aware.
The actor went on to say that as parents, they really focus on teaching their children good values, and then they have to trust those children to go out and live their own lives – and it seems like they’re doing a fantastic job.
He added that he and his husband are ‘very proud of them.’
Neil also shared how proud he is of their kids and how much they both love being fathers. He did mention they’re still working on making their house the fun, welcoming space they envision.
He said their school is really demanding. They come straight home and immediately start their homework – it’s exhausting, honestly.
It’s not really a place where kids constantly hang out, though we do have playdates and sleepovers sometimes. We might get there eventually, though.
However, David chimed in and proudly shared the compliment from their kids’ friends.
He said they’re consistently praised as the coolest parents among their friends. Neil playfully responded, ‘I didn’t know we were keeping score!’
Neil later explained that he hopes his children will feel comfortable sharing their lives with him as they get older, and that they’ll come to him when things are happening rather than keeping him in the dark. He said it was good to hear they were open to that.
David explained that being open and sharing with others tends to encourage them to reciprocate and be open with you in return.
