Near Airport brings back LCS icons Doublelift, Biofrost to NACL
The LCS uncs ran the open qualifiers; can they do the same in NACL?
A motley crew of well-known teams from the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) in previous years successfully navigated the Open Qualifiers. Now, they set their sights on the North American Challengers League (NACL), aiming for a single, ambitious objective: to return to the League of Legends Championship of the Americas (LTA).
Near Airport unc squad makes it to NACL
Earlier this year, the team had been officially unveiled. They managed to compete and excel through the North American Championship League (NACL) 2025 Split 1 Qualifier. Among the initial 64 teams, they were one of the three teams that secured a place in the NACL.
At the airport location, a team played five games and dominated every time, never losing a match during the initial qualifying round.
The team is composed of the following players:
- Top lane: Ashkan “TFBlade” Homayouni
- Jungle: Mingyi “Spica” Lu
- Mid lane: Eugene “Pobelter” Park
- Bot lane: Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng
- Support: Vincent “Biofrost” Wang
For those who have been following traditional Western League of Legends Esports over the years, these names might sound familiar: Spica, Doublelift, and Biofrost previously played for TSM. Pobelter has moved around various organizations like Counter Logic Gaming (CLG), Immortals, and Team Liquid throughout his career. Croissant served as a strategic coach for NRG and CLG before joining this current team in NA.
Located near the Airport signifies the first professional appearance of TFBlade following years spent as a high-ranking streamer. Biofrost hints at this in their team introduction video, mentioning that the top laner has taunted him frequently in solo queue matches. His behavior has since cooled down, with TFBlade explaining that “in a setting where everyone is dedicated, I find it difficult to get angry.” He also emphasizes his efforts to improve himself.
Near Airport’s motivations and controversy
Recently, a video snippet featuring Doublelift has been shared within our community, expressing the necessity for his team to deliberate and decide if they are prepared to fully invest in participating in the North American Championship League (NACL).
He addressed this in the video, too.
Why should we just give a mediocre effort, resemble a slacker named Ruddy Sack, and risk being ridiculed at the end of the year for lack of commitment? I’d rather not engage in something halfheartedly and have everyone wonder, “What’s the point of these guys participating if they’re not fully committed?
Doublelift on his and Near Airport’s mindset toward competing in NALCS
Setting aside the playful remark about Ruddy Sack, Doublelift confidently told their supporters that they are committed to giving their all in the North American League Championship Series (NALCS). Their main objective is to make it through and compete in the League of Legends Tournament Announcement (LTA).
Among the newly established streaming teams, one of the rare groups located near an airport stands out. The most triumphant from this group is Los Ratones, led by Marc “Caedrel” Lamont, who recently secured a top 4 placement in the EMEA Masters.
