Armenta has written or co-written over 60 songs that have appeared on hit música mexicana albums by artists like Fuerza Regida, Tito Double P, Peso Pluma, and Dareyes de la Sierra, showcasing their talent as a songwriter.
Armenta, 25, describes himself as a tailor, but for sound. He crafts audio that complements a singer’s unique voice and the specific emotion they want to convey.
The singer-songwriter quickly penned Fuerza Regida’s popular song “Marlboro Rojo” in just 45 minutes, blending tough, combative lyrics with a surprising sense of romance – as seen in lines like, “The devil’s bullets and I only think of your eyes,” sung by Jesús Ortiz Paz (JOP). He also wrote “Dos Días” for Tito Double P and Peso Pluma after a late night with friends, and the song captures a raw, emotional vulnerability in the singers’ desperate delivery.
Miguel Armenta believes the key to impactful work is creating something that evokes emotion and allows people to truly connect with it.
I had the incredible opportunity to speak with him while he was literally traveling across the country on Peso Pluma’s ‘Dinastía Tour’! It was amazing. He was a huge part of creating Tito Double P’s first album, ‘Incómodo,’ which came out in 2024. That album really helped Tito establish his own unique sound and step out from the shadow of his cousin, Peso Pluma – it was a fantastic project to be involved in, and you can really hear his influence all over it.
Armenta described the project as one that reinforced the important role composers and artists play, calling the resulting album ‘full of hits.’ He later went on to write songs for the collaborative 2025 album ‘Dinastía’ by Tito Double P and Peso Pluma.
Starting in March, singer Armenta began performing their song “London” with the duo known as cousins. The song, which appears on the deluxe version of their album “Dinastía,” imagines a lavish lifestyle. “London” was originally intended for Armenta’s first album, “Portate Bien,” scheduled for release in 2025. That album combines the corridos tumbados style with elements of reggaeton and pop music.
Armenta explained that he was feeling incredibly confident after recently purchasing a house. He had written the song ‘London’ in his home studio and felt on top of the world. He’d actually thought the song wasn’t going anywhere, so he was surprised and pleased when Double P Records reached out about releasing it.
Armenta’s move into Mexican music wasn’t initially a carefully planned career choice, despite his thoughtful songwriting. He comes from a family of engineers and originally intended to study biomedical engineering. “I wanted to use technology to improve people’s lives,” he said.
Despite pursuing other interests, Armenta never lost his love for music. He began writing songs at age 11, playing guitar his brother initially let him borrow – and then eventually bought him one of his own, after Armenta showed a real interest.
He also started following independent musicians who shared their unedited songs on YouTube. By the time he was 18, he’d written one of his first R&B songs, called “Dame,” but it wasn’t released until two years after that.
× Armenta explained that this song was the first one he financially invested in as an artist, using almost all the money he had. He described it as a real sacrifice, admitting he didn’t fully understand the song’s potential at the time, but felt it had something special.
Around 2020, Armenta started writing songs for Angel Ureta, a friend who joined Street Mob Records, a label created by JOP of Fuerza Regida. This led to a working relationship with the independent label, which went on to sign other successful música mexicana artists like Calle 24, Chino Pacas, and Clave Especial.
In late 2022, Armenta had an early success with Fuerza Regida through the song “Bebe Dame.” They recorded it with Grupo Frontera, who had already gained fame on TikTok earlier that year by putting a cumbia nortena twist on “No Se Va,” a 2018 pop hit by the Colombian band Morat.
Armenta suggested using one of his older, less-known songs, called “Dame,” which had only been viewed online a few times. After some lyric changes by Edgar Barrera, a highly-awarded songwriter with 29 Latin Grammys, the updated version, titled “Bebe Dame,” quickly became very popular.
× Early in 2023, a song helped the group Fuerza Regida appear on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time, eventually reaching No. 25. By 2024, Fuerza Regida had become a leading Latin music streaming act in the U.S., joining popular artists like Junior H, Peso Pluma, and Bad Bunny.
In 2024, Armenta and Barrera secretly collaborated to create a joint EP called “Mala Mía” for Grupo Frontera and Fuerza Regida, without either group’s knowledge, according to Armenta. Their hit song, “Me Jalo,” a mix of corrido and cumbia, earned Fuerza Regida their first Latin Grammy nomination and Grupo Frontera their fourth, both in the regional song category at the 26th Annual Latin Grammy Awards.
Armenta explained that he and Edgar are dedicated to developing and modernizing sounds. They’re also working to ensure the importance of música mexicana is recognized and that the genre continues to thrive.
From 2024 to 2026, songwriter and composer Armenta was honored 12 times by the BMI Latin Awards, which recognize outstanding work in Latin music. These awards included recognition for popular collaborations like Fuerza Regida and Grupo Frontera’s songs “Bebe Dame” and “Me Jalo,” as well as Fuerza Regida’s hits “TQM,” “Nel,” and “Por Esos Ojos.” Tito Double P’s songs “Dos Dias” and “Escapate” (featuring Chino Pacas) were also recognized.
The songwriter isn’t planning on slowing down anytime soon, though he imagines he might retire from music in about ten years. Before he does, he hopes to win a few Grammy Awards and possibly even launch a publishing company to support other songwriters and composers. He jokes that his mother predicts he’ll be getting gray hairs along the way.
Armenta believes she’s meant to enjoy life. She feels she was originally destined for something else, but circumstances shifted to bring her to where she is now, which she considers a fortunate position.
