10 Underrated Nintendo Switch Games That Are 10/10, No Notes

Even after almost ten years, this console still feels current. It’s not just because of the many highly-rated, exclusive games it offered, but also because it became a hub for unique and innovative titles.

While games like Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream often grab the spotlight, the Switch also has a lot of hidden gems. Titles like I Was a Teenage Exocolonist and Infernax offer unique experiences and shouldn’t be overlooked.

Yoku’s Island Express Is in the Fast Lane

Yoku’s Island Express is a Metroidvania-style game with a unique twist: it incorporates pinball mechanics. You play as Yoku, a dung beetle who delivers mail around Mokumana Island. When trouble starts to surface, Yoku must investigate and uncover the source of the problem.

Many games, even excellent ones like Hollow Knight, don’t present their worlds as cleverly as this game does. It’s accurately described as a Metroidvania blended with pinball – essentially, players can fall any distance and reappear somewhere else on the map.

Huntdown Has More Than Sticks and Stones

Huntdown is a fast-paced action game set in a world after World War III. While a nuclear disaster was avoided, powerful and ruthless corporations now rule most of the planet. Players choose to play as Anna Conda, John Sawyer, or Mow Man, and their mission is to take down the gangs making life even harder for everyone.

In Huntdown, each of the three characters you can play has a unique ability that makes taking down enemies even more fun—especially with Mow Man’s special power. And while the weapons you find are great, some are so powerful they’ll make you feel like you’re living in a dangerous, post-war world.

Astalon: Tears of the Earth Is Never a Waste

I’m really excited about Astalon: Tears of the Earth! It’s a Metroidvania game set way after a big war between humans and these alien guys called the Lunarians. Apparently, the Lunarians built this massive tower filled with monsters, and I get to play as the hero tasked with taking them all down before they cause some serious trouble – like, end-of-the-world trouble! It sounds awesome.

In Astalon: Tears of the Kingdom, players control three different characters – a strong warrior, a skilled archer, and a powerful wizard. A key feature of the game is the ability to instantly switch between these characters. This is especially useful for overcoming challenges, whether it’s defeating enemies with powerful attacks or discovering hidden secrets, and it keeps the gameplay exciting.

I Was a Teenage Exocolonist Will Not Alienate

Okay, so I’m totally hooked on this game, I Was a Teenage Exocolonist! You play as a character living on this distant planet, Vertumna IV, and life isn’t easy. There’s this weird alien thing making it hard for everyone to live there, and on top of that, you’ve got these aggressive groups causing trouble. It’s a really interesting RPG where you’re just trying to survive with your neighbors.

I Was a Teenage Exocolonist is a unique game that blends several genres, including RPG, strategy, simulation, and visual novel elements. This combination creates a surprisingly deep and expansive experience. The game unfolds over ten years, allowing players to really connect with the characters and the world they inhabit.

Chicory: A Colorful Tale Is All Rainbows

Chicory: A Colorful Tale is an adventure game where you play as Pizza in the black-and-white Picnic Province. Pizza has the power to bring color back to the world, and the main goal is to find places to paint and make the land vibrant and beautiful.

Chicory: A Colorful Tale is incredibly charming in its design, letting players freely explore and color the game world. While the game isn’t entirely peaceful due to the presence of enemies, they’re easily defeated using your paintbrush.

Crow Country Is a Throwback to End All Throwbacks

I recently played Crow Country, and it’s a really creepy survival horror game. You play as this agent, Mara Forest, and it’s set back in 1990 at this abandoned amusement park. I was sent there to look into some people going missing nearby, and let me tell you, this park is hiding some seriously disturbing secrets that are about to come out!

Crow Country takes inspiration from classic survival horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. The game focuses just as much on exploring its environment as it does on progressing the story, creating a truly frightening experience where players need to be careful and avoid unexpected dangers.

Graveyard Keeper Is No Stardew Valley

Graveyard Keeper is a game where you manage a graveyard in a strange afterlife. You play as someone who ends up responsible for maintaining the grounds, meeting various characters along the way, all while hoping to reunite with a lost love.

People often compare Graveyard Keeper to Stardew Valley, but it’s much darker. Unlike Stardew Valley, which focuses on farming, Graveyard Keeper has you managing a graveyard – clearing away clutter so spirits can pass on to the afterlife.

Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling Is Perfect For Paper Mario Fans

Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling is a role-playing game taking place in Bugaria – the backyard of an old, deserted house. Players follow Vi, Kabbu, and Leif, a team of insects, as they search for the legendary Everlasting Sapling, all while dealing with their own difficult pasts and competing against rival insect groups.

Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling feels like a follow-up to the Paper Mario series, particularly in how battles play out. In many ways, Bug Fables is even better than most Paper Mario games, thanks to the unique and imaginative attacks each insect character has.

Infernax Is the Infernal Metroidvania

Infernax is a Metroidvania-style game where you play as Alcedor, a courageous duke. He ventures into the monster-filled Urzon Citadel to find a crucial book that could save his village. His mission? To eliminate every monster in the citadel and recover the book.

Infernax is heavily inspired by classic games from the 1980s, particularly Castlevania II. Like those notoriously challenging titles, the game becomes more enjoyable as you grow stronger and gain experience.

Tinykin Should Be an Even Bigger Deal Than Pikmin

Tinykin is a puzzle-platformer game where you play as Milodane, who teams up with tiny creatures called Tinykin on an Earth-like planet. Together, they need to find special parts to help Milodane get back to his home planet.

Tinykin shares similarities with Pikmin, but it really shines because of its focus on relatable characters. You gather eggs that hatch into Tinykin, little creatures who are always ready to lend a hand. They can help you reach far-off places and activate different objects. Ultimately, the Tinykin are more adaptable and enjoyable to play with than the Pikmin.
