Summary

  • Muller Van Severen’s Silhouettes exhibition celebrated their 15th anniversary at Milan Design Week 2026
  • Featured 15 aluminim candle holders, abstracting motifs from past works
  • Highlighted themes of reduction, balance, and material clarity, reaffirming their global design influence

To celebrate their 15th anniversary, Muller Van Severen presented Silhouettes during Milan Design Week 2026 at Ordet. The exhibition, a collaboration with Apartamento and Tim Van Laere Gallery, didn’t look back at their past work, but instead showcased a new series of abstract, life-size candle holders inspired by their well-known designs. It was a moment to celebrate their unique and influential style in contemporary design.

The presentation showcased fifteen aluminum candle holders, each inspired by the familiar designs of Muller Van Severen’s previous work – like their chairs, cabinets, lamps, vases, and sculptures. The artists simplified these classic shapes into outlines, playing with how we recognize forms even when they’re abstract. A large, brightly colored candle sat on top of each holder, adding an element of time as the wax melted, slowly changing the still objects into something new.

At the Salone del Mobile, the exhibit Silhouettes showcased Muller Van Severen’s continued focus on simplicity, harmony, and the honest use of materials. It also marked fifteen years of their impactful work and collaborations in the world of design.
