Monster Hunter Wilds: How To Beat Ajarakan (Weaknesses and Rewards)

In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know about Ajarakan in Monster Hunter Wilds, focusing on effective strategies for defeating it by exploiting its vulnerabilities.

Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to tackle Ajarakan in Monster Hunter Wilds, with an emphasis on identifying and attacking its weaknesses for a successful hunt.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the game elevates its impressive roster of beasts by introducing Ajarakan. Players can engage in combat with this formidable creature across both Low and High ranks. Notably, the materials Ajarakan drops differ depending on the rank, adding a layer of complexity to your hunt. Though he may appear daunting, experienced Monster Hunter players should find him manageable once they familiarize themselves with his vulnerabilities and behavioral patterns.

Ajarakan Overview

In this game world, I’ve come across a creature like no other – Ajarakan. It’s tricky to put into words without some inconsistencies, but picture if you will, a blend of familiar animals from our reality. It walks and acts mostly like a gorilla, yet its features are strikingly similar to a bird-armadillo hybrid. This unique beast is often found lurking in the Basin Biome, where it becomes part of a main quest that’s hard to ignore. Ajarakan carries an affinity for fire, and just the mere mention of it sends shivers down the spines of brave Hunters who dare to step into its territory.

As a fan, I’d put it this way: The beast isn’t perpetually ablaze, but it has the ability to ignite at will. You’ll usually spot Ajarakan doing so because it performs a unique animation during such moments. What’s more, it navigates its environment quite skillfully, using ledges to climb or making impressive jumps to dodge your attacks.

How To Unlock Ajarakan in Monster Hunter Wilds

Ajarakan isn’t referred to as a “post-endgame” boss, but you can still engage it even after finishing the main storyline. However, you will initially encounter it during the main quest itself, specifically in Chapter 2. It is typically found in the Basin Biome region. You’ll be led to hunt Ajarakan as part of the “Long-Forgotten Flame” primary mission.

After conquering it and wrapping up the whole narrative, there’s a slim possibility you might stumble upon it in Wyveria. If you’ve made it through Chapter 3, give Wyveria a visit and search for Ajarakan instead of venturing into the Basin Biome. Once you feel like you’ve delved deep enough to be inside an active volcano, take comfort in knowing that you’re exactly where you should be. Keep your eyes peeled, Ajarakan shouldn’t be too far off.

Ajarakan Weaknesses

Ajarakan’s Elemental Weakness

  • Water-type Damage
  • Ice-type Damage

Ajarakan’s Status Weakness

  • Poison
  • Stun
  • Paralysis
  • Sleep
  • Blast
  • Exhaust

Out of the two fundamental vulnerabilities, Water proves to be the more potent one. Moreover, Ajarakan is susceptible to almost all Status ailments in comparable degrees. It’s advisable to steer clear of inflicting Fire damage on him as he exhibits a high degree of resistance to it.

Ajarakan’s Weak Points

Focus on hitting three key areas: its head, tail, and limbs. Interestingly, its tail is the part that can be cut off. Also, take note that the Fanged Beast is particularly vulnerable to Slashing and Bludgeoning damage. Therefore, it would be wise to continually attack it with Slashing moves and strategically employ Water-type attacks for optimal effectiveness.

Best Weapons for Ajarakan in Monster Hunter Wilds

In essence, when engaging in combat against Ajarakan, focus on mastering three key weapons: Dueling Blades (Dual Swords), Long Blade (Longsword), and War Mace (Hammer). For optimal results, we recommend proficiency with the Dueling Blades and the Long Blade as they are effective in causing substantial harm to your foe. Depending on your preferred playstyle, you may opt for either of these weapons.

If swift, agile combat against a colossal beast appeals to you, opt for the Master Sabers, akin to Dual Swords. On the other hand, if you’re inclined towards inflicting greater damage while sacrificing some speed, the Windclaw Kiribami, similar to a Longsword, makes an excellent choice.

To wrap things up, having a Hammer stashed away would be ideal for dishing out crushing blows against that beast. It’s not our first choice, but if you’re more accustomed to wielding a hammer or prefer this option, by all means, make it your weapon of choice!

Items To Carry for the Battle

Don’t forget to carry these items in your Radial Menu for your fight against Ajarakan:

  • Pitfall Trap
  • Shock Trap
  • Flash Pod
  • Nutberry

If you acquired the free Assistance Pack, you will get a Shock Trap for free as well.

How To Beat Ajarakan in Monster Hunter Wilds

Ajarakan prefers to use his powerful punches as his main attack. These strikes deal Blast damage to the target. The most effective strategy for countering these attacks is to dodge sideways, as they usually follow a straight trajectory. In addition to these punches, there are many other attacks in his repertoire.

Furthermore, this beast also possesses an Area of Effect (AoE) attack that moves along a straight line. If you’re hit by it, the ground beneath you will ignite and cause everything within its path to burn.

This colossal monkey-like beast exhibits a furious state. Ajarakan sets itself ablaze and amplifies a potent area-of-effect (AoE) attack. The specific talent lies in an explosive AoE burst capable of instantly eliminating any Hunter. Pay close attention to its movements and ensure you stay out of its path. If the creature begins spinning, maintain a safe distance.

Finally, once you’ve inflicted sufficient harm, Ajarakan will retreat to its den and attempt to leap onto the ground. It is crucial that you continue to observe its actions as diligently as possible.

Tips To Defeat Ajarakan

Here are some tips that you may find useful in your fight against the beast:

  • Plan your movements based on how Ajarakan is moving. Since it has several AoE attacks, just try to stay as far away as possible once you pick up on the visual and/or audial cues.
  • Since most of the attacks from this monster are in one-line we suggest you keep flanking the monster.
  • The best trick to avoid damage is to evade the attacks altogether.
  • Only move in to attack when you think you can deliver enough damage before the attack window ends.
  • Be patient and don’t rush.
