McLaren, known for its racing team, has surprisingly entered the golf world this week in Miami. What’s unusual is that instead of starting with clothes or brand licensing, they’re launching directly with two new sets of golf irons as part of a larger plan to get involved in the sport.
This new approach builds on the company’s engineering expertise, using ideas from motorsport to improve golf club design – a category that doesn’t usually change quickly. A key part of this is Metal Injection Molding, a manufacturing technique not often used widely in golf. This process allows for more precise club construction and greater flexibility in weight distribution compared to traditional methods like forging or casting.
This project was a long time in the making! I’ve heard Justin Rose has been working on it for almost two years now, giving feedback on early versions and really helping to make it what it is today. It’s awesome to see that Michelle Wie West and Ian Poulter aren’t just faces for the project either – they’ve actually invested in it alongside being ambassadors. It shows they really believe in it, which is cool.
The new line features two golf club models: the Series 1, designed as a classic, powerful muscle-back, and the Series 3, a more forgiving option for players wanting extra distance. Both clubs share a focus on accuracy and control. The launch is perfectly timed to coincide with the Miami Grand Prix and a PGA TOUR event, putting McLaren golf right in the spotlight alongside other major sporting events.
Both iron sets cost $350 and are available for purchase on the McLaren Golf website and at authorized custom fitting locations.
