Marvel reportedly bringing legend back for a THIRD role in Avengers: Secret Wars

As a long-time Marvel fan, I have to admit that the latest rumors about the upcoming “Avengers: Secret Wars” have me both excited and a bit apprehensive. The idea of seeing Chris Evans return to the MCU as Captain Hydra is mind-boggling! I still remember his first appearance as Steve Rogers/Captain America in 2011, and how he quickly became one of my favorite characters.

For enthusiasts of Marvel Comics, the term “endgame” will forever be linked to the groundbreaking film, “Avengers: Endgame“; a movie that redefined the Marvel Cinematic Universe and marked the culmination of its Infinity Saga. However, the franchise is now moving towards a new climax, as its continuing Multiverse Saga will reach its conclusion with “Avengers: Secret Wars“.

The upcoming Avengers movie is anticipated to be larger than its previous versions, with characters from multiple universes potentially joining the team to combat the menacing Doctor Doom, who is set to become the franchise’s primary antagonist. Interestingly, it’s rumored that Robert Downey Jr., a Marvel icon, might reprise his role but this time as the malevolent Doctor Doom, a variant of his adored MCU character, Tony Stark, aka Iron Man.

The events depicted are merely a taste of what the Multiverse Saga can deliver, and it seems there could be more significant elements from both “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Interestingly, Robert Downey Jr.’s return might not be the sole return of a vintage Avenger, suggesting that these heroes may assume different roles in future blockbusters.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but get excited when I hear rumors about one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s founding heroes potentially returning to the big screen… this time as a villain!

Chris Evans rumored to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars as Captain Hydra

Based on reports from Marvel Update, a trusted source for Marvel news, Chris Evans is set to rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming film “Avengers: Secret Wars“. However, this time around, he may be taking on an entirely new role – as Captain Hydra (rather than Captain America). Such a twist would undoubtedly demonstrate the incredible possibilities of the multiverse.

Without a doubt, Evans is most recognized by Marvel enthusiasts for portraying the adored Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America. He initially took on this role in 2011’s “Captain America: The First Avenger,” and swiftly established the character as a cornerstone of the franchise. Since then, he has reprised his role in follow-up films such as “The Winter Soldier” and “Civil War,” as well as every Avengers movie to date. Additionally, he’s made cameo appearances in “Thor: The Dark World,” “Ant-Man,” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Initially, Steve Rogers aimed to crush Hydra and everything it represented. A significant portion of this mission was completed in the 1940s as depicted in the first movie, but remnants of it persisted and resurfaced in the present. Ultimately, Steve managed to eliminate the organization, demonstrating that goodness, kindness, and love can overcome evil.

Instead of depicting him as a wicked duplicate of Captain America who worked for Hydra, many Cap fans might find this unappealing. However, just like how Robert Downey Jr.’s comeback in a more sinister role was unexpected, introducing Captain Hydra could be the surprising turn that signifies the scope of the Multiverse Saga. The characters of Iron Man and Captain America are key representations of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so the concept of villainous doppelgangers adds an exciting layer to the grandness of the ongoing narrative that Marvel Studios is weaving.

In a countless number of universes, anything is possible – even the transformation of the most virtuous champions into the deadliest antagonists.

If Evans were to star as Captain Hydra in Avengers: Secret Wars, it would mark his third character appearance within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). While he is most recognized for playing Captain America, he also recently cameoed in Deadpool and Wolverine as a variant of Johnny Storm, the Human Torch. This role was a continuation of his portrayal from both the 2005 and 2007 Fantastic Four films.
