As a seasoned film critic with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the journey of Demi Moore in The Substance is nothing short of extraordinary. Her portrayal of Sue, a character that pushed her boundaries and left her in tears before even shooting her first take, is truly commendable.

In simpler terms, Margaret Qualley shared a funny story about her initial encounter with her fellow actor Dennis Quaid, who used to date her mom Andie MacDowell, during the early 2000s.

The 29-year-old actress is the child of the well-known actor from “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and ex-model Paul Qualley. They divorced when she was just four years old.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I recently shared my heartfelt story about how the 1998 reimagining of “The Parent Trap” has become an integral part of my life. In a captivating conversation, I passionately encouraged my dear friend Andie – at the age of 66 – to join me in revisiting this timeless classic. My hope is that by immersing ourselves in the film’s enchanting tale of reunited parents, we might just inspire our own families to mend their bonds, much like the characters in the movie.

To my surprise, I discovered an unexpected turn of events: my mother had developed a romantic relationship with none other than her Dinner with Friends co-star, Dennis, a man 70 years old and renowned for his role as Nick Parker in The Parent Trap.

Referring back to her encounter with the actor at age six, Margaret shared with The Sunday Times that she was taken aback when she realized her strategy hadn’t worked out as planned, and felt offended by Dennis’ attire.

She recalled how Andie had arrived home after months away filming, saying: ‘She’s like, “You know you love The Parent Trap so much?” And I was like, yeah, yeah. And then in walks Dennis Quaid.

‘I thought I was magic and that I’d willed the wrong thing into existence!’

In a subsequent statement, the Maid declared: ‘Upon his entrance, he donned flamboyant red trousers made of leather. The sight left me quite taken aback. I retorted, “Those trousers are ridiculous,” and since then, we’ve never exchanged words again.’

She explained his unusual attire by saying, “It was the 2000s, and perhaps he was experiencing some personal issues at that time.

In a 2019 appearance on The Late Late Show, Margaret had shared anecdotes about her actual link to the movie “The Parent Trap.

She mentioned that as a child of divorced parents, she strongly connected with the movie “The Parent Trap.” She enjoys both versions, but finds herself especially attracted to the one featuring Lindsay Lohan and Dennis Quaid.

I found myself frequently mentioning, ‘Guys, don’t you remember The Parent Trap? Despite their initial separation, things ended up wonderfully for them in the movie. I was wondering if you’ve ever thought about giving it a watch? Even though your parents are divorced, they all seemed really content at the end! What do you think about that film?

However, she playfully suggested that her mother had misinterpreted her intentions when she started dating Dennis.

She admitted, “I believed it was entirely my mistake that brought this about, and I even wished for it to happen. I accept full accountability.

In their latest critically praised movie titled “The Substance”, Margaret shares the screen with Dennis, as well as Demi Moore.

In simpler terms, the film is about Elizabeth Sparkle, a famous fitness instructor nearing retirement (portrayed by Demi, aged 61), who decides to try an experimental serum promising rejuvenation and self-improvement, leading her down a horrifying journey of bodily transformation.

In this version, Margaret portrays the youthful incarnation of Elisabeth, known as Sue, whereas Dennis assumes the role of Harvey, a boss with traditional gender views in television.

In another part of the interview, Margaret described her unique approach to handling a particularly difficult professional moment in her film career. She employed a mix of rigorous physical workouts, alcohol, and cannabis as her coping mechanisms.

She revealed one pivotal scene involving a highly sexualised dance class led by a lycra-clad Sue, resulted in her ‘crying in the bathroom’ before she’d even shot her first take.

The celebrity from humble origins shared that a particular type of sexuality does not resonate with her, and elaborated that she personally choreographs her performances in secluded settings.

In simpler terms, she confessed that when it was time to start filming, she relied on a combination of tequila and marijuana to help her carry on with the task at hand.

She admitted that she had already become intoxicated early in the day, explaining, “I felt I couldn’t continue performing in front of everyone.

As a die-hard admirer, let me share that I, too, found myself at odds with the visionary director, Coralie Fargeat, regarding my character’s physical portrayal – a subject we initially clashed on. But, as the filming progressed, our disagreements transformed into a harmonious collaboration, culminating in a masterpiece that truly resonated with audiences.

Initially, personal trainers were brought on board to assist the actress in achieving Sue’s toned figure. However, Coralie, who envisioned Sue in an ’80s style, with a focus on curves similar to Jessica Rabbit (emphasizing hips and breasts), was dissatisfied with the outcome of their efforts.

Margaret clarified, “Well, as you requested, I took action, but it seems you’re still dissatisfied. So, it looks like I’ll need to handle things myself from now on.

Regarding her ample figure, she mentioned humorously: “Sadly, there isn’t a magical breast cream available, so we opted for adhesive attachments instead.

Coralie discovered an extraordinary prosthetic group that will give me the best set of prosthetics ever, but unfortunately, it’s not for my lifetime.

The Material was widely acclaimed, earning a prolonged 13-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival.

In one of the scenes, the script demanded that Demi portray her role without any clothing on, as it depicted Margaret’s character being ‘born.’ This scene involved the older actress scrutinizing her own bare body before Margaret appeared, engaging in a full-frontal scene where she examined her own skin.

At the Cannes Film Festival in May, Demi explained that it was less challenging for her to act out explicit nude scenes alongside Margaret because she made her feel extremely secure.

As I reflected, I acknowledged having an exceptional companion, someone who instilled a profound sense of security within me. Our bond was intimate, bordering on the vulnerability that comes with being bare, yet it was also filled with laughter as we found humor in the peculiarities of our shared experiences.

‘But ultimately. it’s just about really directing your communication and mutual trust.’

The Substance is released across the United Kingdom and the United States on September 20.
