Man On Fire Season 2 Chances Addressed By Star Of Netflix’s Gritty Denzel Washington Remake

With season 1 now available on Netflix, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is sharing details about what’s next for his intense thriller, Man on Fire.

Speaking with Ash Crossan from ScreenRant, actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II shared that he’d be open to continuing his role as John Creasy in future seasons of Man on Fire. He described the character as “incredible” and added that he prefers not to worry about whether a show will be renewed, as it’s not helpful for him to dwell on things he can’t control.

He’s thrilled with how the first season turned out, and he’s taking a wait-and-see approach to the future of the show. While he’s considered returning for another season of Man on Fire, he emphasizes that there needs to be a compelling reason to do so, and he wants to ensure the show maintains a high level of quality.

Fortunately, he’s been loving working on Man on Fire and is “excited to put that out into the world.”

I’ve definitely considered playing this role for a while now. It’s important to have a strong reason to take on a project, and you really need to enjoy it – I always aim to love what I do, but at least liking it is essential. John Creasy is a fantastic character, and this has been a wonderful opportunity. I’m not sure what the future holds, and honestly, I don’t spend much time worrying about it. I’m just really proud of what we’ve created so far and excited to share it with everyone. We’ll deal with whatever happens next if and when it does.

A.J. Quinnell’s novel, Man on Fire, originally published in 1980, has been made into a movie several times. It first appeared on screen in 1987 with Scott Glenn in the lead role, and again in 2004 starring Denzel Washington.

I recently revisited Denzel Washington’s take on the story, and while it pulled in a respectable $130 million and earned him an NAACP Image Award nomination, critics weren’t exactly thrilled – it landed a pretty low 39% on Rotten Tomatoes. Interestingly enough, the original author, Quinnell, actually liked the movie, which is a bit of a surprise given the general critical reception.

Netflix recently turned Quinnell’s story into a seven-episode TV series, debuting on April 30th. The show stars John David Washington as Creasy, a former Special Forces soldier haunted by PTSD who embarks on a mission of revenge. The cast also includes Billie Boullet, Scoot McNairy, Alice Braga, Bobby Cannavale, and Paul Ben-Victor.

This year marks the second series release for Abdul-Mateen II. He first appeared in the new Marvel show Wonder Man on Disney+ in January, and that show has already been picked up for another season.

Kyle Killen created Man on Fire, writing all of its episodes and also serving as an executive producer. He was joined by fellow executive producers including Mahershala Ali (Abdul-Mateen II), Scott Pennington, Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, Natalie Lehmann, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Tracey Cook, Steven Caple Jr., Michael Polaire, and Edward L. McDonnell.

The recent remake of Man on Fire has been better received than the 2004 version, currently scoring 63% on Rotten Tomatoes. If enough people watch the first season, it’s likely to be renewed, as there are four more books by author A.J. Quinnell that the creators can adapt: The Perfect Kill, The Blue Ring, Black Horn, and Message From Hell.

Man on Fire is available to stream on Netflix.
