Madonna’s return to the stage at Coachella, joining Sabrina Carpenter‘s headlining set, is now facing criticism after many people claimed she didn’t actually sing live.
People online are calling Madonna a ‘fake’ after accusing her of lip-syncing during a performance with Carpenter. She wore a purple corset, short shorts, matching gloves, and high heels. This criticism comes right before the release of her new album, ‘Confessions II’, on July 3rd.
I’ve been seeing a lot of discussion online, and it reminded me of that whole situation with Elton John calling out Madonna back in 2004. Someone actually brought up his comment about her supposedly lip-syncing during an awards show – it’s amazing how things from so long ago still resonate with people!
‘Elton John said it best about Madonna and her lip syncing fraud,’ the fan wrote on X.
Back in 2012, Elton John publicly criticized Madonna, calling her performance style vulgar and accusing artists who fake their singing of being disgraceful. This sparked a long-running disagreement between the two stars, but they eventually reconciled in 2023.
Seriously, everyone at that show out in the desert felt the same way I did – Carpenter absolutely killed it! People were going wild, and let me tell you, they had a lot to say about how amazing he was. It was incredible to witness!
One person on X noted that Madonna appeared to rely heavily on a pre-recorded vocal track during her performance, suggesting it could be considered lip-syncing. They pointed out that Sabrina did something similar during her set, and added that Coachella has increasingly become more about spectacle than a truly live musical experience.
Someone pointed out that Madonna appeared to be lip-syncing while Sabrina sang along to the music. Another person agreed, saying Sabrina’s voice sounded really good.
Someone commented, ‘Even older performers can still have ambitions… but I was really disappointed by Madonna’s lip syncing.’
Someone else pointed out that the singer was likely lip syncing, noticing a clear mismatch between the vocals and the performer’s mouth movements. They added that Madonna isn’t a strong vocalist and believes she only became famous due to her shocking outfits and attention-grabbing behavior.
Someone else chimed in, saying Madonna appeared to be lip-syncing while Sabrina was singing live. They also thought the song was bad and wouldn’t be successful.
The 67-year-old pop star appeared near the end of Carpenter’s performance, marking her return to Coachella two decades after a memorable and groundbreaking performance in 2006.
According to Page Six, Madonna unexpectedly appeared from under the stage to perform a mashup of her songs ‘Vogue’ (1990) and ‘Like a Prayer’ (1989), accompanied by pre-recorded vocals.
Walking further onto the stage, closer to the audience, Madonna expressed her gratitude, saying, ‘Wow, thank you… Sabrina, thanks so much for having me on your show.’
‘No thanks needed, Madonna,’ Carpenter replied as they held hands.
The singer continued, explaining she had some thoughts she wanted to share. She reminisced about performing at Coachella twenty years ago, debuting part one of her ‘Confessions on a Dance Floor’ album in the dance tent – a really exciting experience. Being back at Coachella now feels special and like a meaningful moment for her, bringing things full circle.
Madonna encouraged the audience to unite and put aside their differences, emphasizing that music has the power to connect people.
During his second weekend of shows, Carpenter was joined by several famous guests, including Terry Crews. Crews playfully recreated a scene from the movie White Chicks and even sang a version of Vanessa Carlton’s hit song, “A Thousand Miles.”
At Coachella, Geena Davis performed a monologue much like the one her Thelma & Louise co-star, Susan Sarandon, did during Carpenter’s opening weekend performance.
