Madonna is back on Radio 1’s playlist 11 years after she was snubbed for being ‘too old.’
Madonna, 67, previously criticized a UK radio station for allegedly ignoring her 2015 single, “Living For Love.” Now, she’s back on the station’s playlist with her new song, “Bring Your Love.”
She’s collaborating with Sabrina Carpenter on a new song coming out this Thursday, April 30th.
Madonna’s new song, “Bring Your Love,” will be included on her fifteenth studio album, “Confessions II,” which is scheduled to be released on July 3rd.
This announcement follows their recent performance at Coachella, where Madonna unexpectedly joined Sabrina on stage during her headlining set, thrilling fans.
According to a source close to Madonna, she’s left nothing to chance and is determined to make sure this venture is a success.
They added to The Sun: ‘The music is fresh and exciting enough to compete with any young star.’
Daily Mail has contacted BBC Radio 1 for comment.
In 2015, Madonna claimed Radio 1 had effectively banned her music, suggesting it was because the station targets a younger demographic. This led to accusations of ageism.
Ben Cooper, who leads BBC Radio 1, hinted that the singer might be featured on the station again if she released a song that better suited their young audience.
I always appreciate how he clarifies things. He made it clear they don’t actually ban artists, and that songs get added to playlists simply because they’re good – it all comes down to the quality of the music, according to him.
During a statement for the UK Chart show, Ben questioned whether established artists should be prioritized over rising new talents, asking who would appeal more to younger listeners.
We don’t prohibit artists from being featured. Our playlist curators consider a variety of factors and current trends when deciding which songs are a good fit.
Madonna surprised fans at this year’s Coachella festival in California by joining Sabrina onstage. Together, they performed her classic hits “Like A Prayer” and “Vogue,” which were both originally released in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Do YOU think Madonna deserves her Radio 1 comeback?
What’s your view?
The music icon appeared near the end of Carpenter’s Coachella performance, marking her return to the festival after a celebrated show in 2006. It had been 20 years since her last appearance.
She appeared from under the stage and sang a mix of “Vogue” and “Like a Prayer” alongside a powerful backing track.
Walking further onto the stage, closer to the audience, she expressed her gratitude, saying, ‘Wow, thank you… Sabrina, thanks so much for having me on your show.’
Madonna encouraged the audience to unite and put aside their differences, emphasizing that music has the power to connect people.
