Monkey D. Luffy is once again the most popular character in the official rankings, regaining the top spot after a surprising change was reversed.
The second global popularity poll for One Piece characters, run by Oricon, is happening now. Recently, the votes were checked and adjusted to eliminate fake submissions, which has significantly altered the rankings compared to the initial results released a few weeks ago.
Luffy Regains #1 Spot in One Piece Character Rankings Amid Fraud Investigation
Around mid-March, Luffy was unexpectedly knocked off the top spot in the official Japanese character ranking. Roronoa Zoro, the skilled swordsman, took first place instead. There’s now suspicion that some dishonest voting may have helped Zoro win, and it’s unclear how this will affect the final rankings that will be published later this year.
The One Piece series is experiencing a phenomenal year, and it shows no signs of slowing down. The original manga is selling incredibly well, breaking records within its first month, and both major anime and live-action adaptations have made a comeback this year.
Season 2 of the live-action One Piece series, titled Into the Grand Line, premiered on Netflix on March 10th. The new episodes feature several new characters, including Mr. 3 (played by David Dastmalchian), Captain Smoker (Callum Kerr), and Nefertari Vivi (Charithra Chandran). The season has been a critical and popular success, currently holding a 100% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Just under a month after a break, the One Piece anime resumed with new episodes covering the continuing Elbaph Arc from Eiichiro Oda’s manga. Along with showing the Straw Hats arriving on the island of Elbaph—home to the series’ giants—the latest episodes feature several new voice actors.
Kishio and Miki joined the series as voice actors, taking on the roles of Benn Beckman from the Red-Haired Pirates and Laffitte, respectively. Kishio stepped in after the passing of Taiki Matuno earlier in 2024, while Miki likely replaced Arno Tahara, who was 77 years old.
Fans are excited about Kenjiro Tsuda reprising his role, as he recently voiced a character in a promotional video for One Piece Volume 113. This has led many to speculate that Tsuda will be the voice of Shamrock in the upcoming Elbaph Arc of the anime.
