Lucy Mecklenburgh’s relationship with Ryan Thomas marred by cheating scandals, arguments and ‘resentment’ – as it’s revealed she’s ‘delaying their wedding because of his finances’

In 2019, Ryan Thomas proposed to Lucy Mecklenburgh during a romantic trip to Positano, Italy, in a moment that felt straight out of a movie.

The proposal happened quickly, less than two years after they began dating, and it seemed they were planning a lavish, celebrity-filled wedding without delay.

But almost seven years later, they are still nowhere close to saying ‘I do’.

People are saying the delay is because Lucy wants to stay financially secure, especially considering Ryan’s past money problems.

Their relationship hasn’t just suffered from money problems; they’ve also been dealing with rumors of infidelity, frequent public fights, and multiple reports of breakups.

The couple initially connected in 2017 while filming the show Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls. They faced tough conditions, including a lack of water, constant hunger, and severe tropical storms.

After developing a strong bond on the survival show, the pair continued their romance on home turf.

According to a source who spoke with the Daily Star, there was a clear connection between the two people, and people were noticing and getting enthusiastic about it.

Rumors started swirling when they posted holiday photos from the same place on Instagram, even though they had previously said they weren’t a couple.

Ryan and Lucy shared a kiss at London City Airport, their first public display of affection after being seen together at the Wimbledon men’s semi-finals.

After only a year together, Lucy and Ryan supposedly broke up after a major fight. Sources say Lucy suspected Ryan of becoming romantically involved with another model.

The Sun reports that Lucy and Ryan broke up following a heated argument, just days after Lucy shared a loving photo of them kissing at the Parklife music festival in Manchester, where they celebrated Ryan’s 34th birthday.

I can’t believe it! I just heard from someone close to them, and apparently, they had a huge fight this week and broke up immediately. It’s totally shocking because they always seemed so perfect together, everyone thought they were madly in love! I’m honestly devastated.

Their friends are hoping they might get back together someday, but it’s uncertain if that will happen.

The split only ended up lasting 72 hours before they were back together.

Lucy was furious when she heard Ryan was seen getting very close to another woman while out in Manchester.

The actor, formerly on Coronation Street, insisted he hadn’t done anything wrong, but Lucy was too distraught to hear him out at first.

They finally met, and Ryan was able to reassure her that the rumors weren’t true and that he really wanted to try again.

He used social media to show everyone they’d reconciled, posting an old photo on Instagram of Lucy and Coronation Street actress Brooke Vincent.

The caption read: ‘Can’t wait for the next adventure with these two lunatics!’

In 2019, things got worse when Lucy was spotted kissing an unknown man on the cheek while she was in Dubai.

Footage showed them holding hands and her gently touching his back. Witnesses also reported she appeared to be touching his inner thigh, and they departed separately, just a couple of minutes after each other.

Once a video surfaced of Lucy at a nightclub, she explained on X that she was saying goodbye to a friend. However, many X users didn’t believe her and thought the interaction looked strange.

She was really upset, tweeting: ‘Why is saying goodbye to a friend now a whole night out?! It’s so silly!’

Lucy defended the video, saying it wasn’t as bad as people were making out and had been misinterpreted. She showed her support on X by liking several posts, including one that stated: ‘The video wasn’t even that bad… it’s crazy how quickly people judge things’.

Ryan, however, was said to be ‘in pieces’ after seeing the video.

According to sources who spoke with the Daily Mail, the actor was deeply upset by what happened, but understands her explanation that she was simply saying goodbye to a friend and became unusually affectionate because she had been drinking.

Ryan reportedly looked embarrassed that the video surfaced so soon after he and his partner had done a friendly photoshoot for a magazine.

During a recent interview, the couple revealed plans to become engaged and purchase a house together next year. Lucy jokingly added that her future fiancé should start saving now, as she expects a large engagement ring.

According to a source, Ryan is mortified the video surfaced just as he and his partner were featured in OK! magazine, publicly expressing their strong affection for each other.

Right now, he’s concentrating on performing well in the pantomime for the people of Uxbridge and trying not to think about Lucy. She’s assured him that nothing happened with the other person, and he’s doing his best to believe her and move on.

They resolved their issues again, imagining a future together while remembering their trip to New York.

And six months later, Ryan popped the question during a holiday to the Amalfi coast.

At the time, it appeared that the pair had already been planning their wedding for months.

It seems Lucy is planning a wedding! She’s been browsing Instagram for ideas, checking out photos of dresses, flowers, and how to set up tables.

Yet there was still no wedding.

Their nuptials were reportedly delayed due to life getting in the way.

After all, the year after they got engaged, the world shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead, they quickly had two children: Roman, born in March 2020, and Lilah, born in May 2022.

Lucy shared that while she’s happy about expanding their family, the challenges of sleepless nights with baby Roman led to some frustration and resentment towards Ryan.

Lucy shared a graphic about the dangers of sleep loss on her Instagram Stories, and wrote, ‘I wish I’d seen something like this six months ago.’

A lack of sleep led to feelings of resentment because my partner was getting more rest.

Statements like feeling impulsive or aggressive, and getting easily irritated when woken up by a child at night, were also commonly mentioned.

Ryan recently revealed his sleep routine on his podcast, ‘Mancs On The Mic,’ and confessed to quickly napping while Lucy was busy changing their son’s diaper.

During the show, he shared with his brothers, Adam and Scott, that he’d had the best sleep of his life after falling asleep on the couch the night before.

Then Lucy walked in and asked what I was doing. I was so surprised, it was like I’d seen a ghost, and I immediately said, “I’m sleeping!”

She asked if I wanted to get into bed, and I replied that I was already asleep and enjoying a good sleep.

Let me tell you, as someone who’s seen a lot, sometimes a moment of peace can be shattered in an instant! Apparently, after a certain interaction, Roman woke up and, well, had an accident – let’s just say his quiet time was definitely over. It’s a reminder that life doesn’t always go as planned, does it?

The actor previously complimented Lucy, calling her ‘amazing’ for everything she experienced during and after her pregnancy, and said watching her as a mother was ‘inspiring’.

It’s amazing what women are capable of. Pregnancy, childbirth, and learning to nourish a baby are truly inspiring to witness.

It’s definitely strengthened our bond. I’m amazed by how well she’s adjusted to motherhood. I feel even more deeply in love with her now, and our connection feels completely unconditional because we’re raising a child together.

Ryan is also a father to his daughter Scarlett from his previous relationship with Tina O’Brien.

Let’s be real, relationships have their ups and downs, and Lucy and Ryan definitely faced a challenge in 2022. Photos surfaced of Ryan getting a little too close with Zaraah Abrahams from EastEnders – things like cuddling and nuzzling – and it caused some drama. Thankfully, they were able to work through it and navigate that rough patch together.

Ryan and Zaraah acted together in the ITV soap opera when Zaraah was a cast member from 2005 to 2007.

Photos published by The Sun show him hugging a married actress he’s friends with at the after-party for Thursday’s National Television Awards.

Someone at the event said that former Coronation Street stars who played Jason Grimshaw and Joanne Jackson seemed to be getting along really well and enjoying their time catching up.

Ryan invited Zaraah and her family over to his house. They were all laughing, and Ryan was looking at something on Zaraah’s phone.

He pulled her close in a warm hug. They’d been drinking throughout the evening, and he was swept away by the feeling of the moment.

They quickly fell back into easy laughter, clearly having been friends for a while. Ryan remarked to her, “You know me so well,” and continued with a playful, “You know what I’m like.” The whole interaction was lighthearted and fun.

A representative for Zaraah stated to The Sun that Zaraah and Ryan have been friends for over 20 years and were simply reconnecting after a long period of not seeing each other. They emphasized that there is no romantic connection between them.

The Daily Mail contacted their reps for comment at the time.

However, Lucy and Ryan put on a united front days later with a snap of the pair at the F45 gym.

Last year, Ryan recounted a funny story about a date night he and Lucy had, giving fans another peek into their relationship.

The actor, who used to be on Coronation Street, shared details about what happened during a recent episode of his podcast, which he co-hosts with his brothers, Scott and Adam, both 37.

On the show ‘At Home With The Thomas Bros,’ he shared a funny story, admitting he’d originally considered not mentioning it – and even possibly removing it from the episode – but decided to include it anyway.

He explained that he’d been planning a special evening for a while, making reservations for both a restaurant and a hotel.

Scott chimed in, explaining he’d already heard about the situation and encouraged his brothers to find out who had told him.

Ryan shared that he was incredibly enthusiastic about something. Adam then explained that his advice to Ryan was, whenever you’re hoping a date night will go well…

No matter how carefully you plan a date night, it almost never goes exactly as you expect.

Ryan described how the evening started to go wrong: ‘We arrived at the hotel, had a nice room, and then went to a beautiful new restaurant with a view of all of Manchester.’

It gradually started to bother me. Whenever I tried to talk to someone, it always turned into an argument instead of a normal conversation, and the whole atmosphere just felt wrong.

Things then escalated when Lucy suddenly disappeared from the table.

He said she had put on her coat, and he initially assumed she’d gone to the restroom. After ten, then fifteen, then thirty minutes had passed while he was still waiting, he finally texted her, jokingly asking if she was having a very long bathroom break.

He chuckled and explained that he called her, but the call didn’t connect. He tried again with the same result. After that, he realized she wasn’t going to answer.

Scott asked: ‘This is in the restaurant?’ to which Ryan replied: ‘This is in the restaurant.

He explained that he’d normally think, ‘Okay, it’s a big night, so I’ll go back to the hotel.’ He said when he got to his room and saw a bottle of champagne, he decided to have just one glass.

Lucy addressed rumors about a possible affair with Ryan’s brother, Scott, by sharing a funny video that playfully mocked the speculation.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I just saw the cutest video! She actually HUGGED Scott, her future brother-in-law, right there in her hallway! I’ve replayed it like a million times, it’s just… everything! It’s so sweet to see them getting along, and honestly, her hallway is gorgeous too. I’m living for this whole moment!

As they hugged, text appeared on the video saying, ‘When your brother starts to wonder if the gossip is true…’

Lucy playfully asked the former Love Island star if he’d been hitting the gym, and Scott responded that he goes ‘a couple of times a week’.

Ryan, a former actor on Coronation Street, was playfully hiding by pretending to be a coat on a door. He then surprised everyone by dropping his legs and revealing himself.

As the actor grimly stares at them both, Scott says: ‘I’ll be going then.’

I was so surprised to see the sketch! It all started because people began speculating about a possible romance between Scott and Lucy. He’d mentioned they have a lot in common and chat on the phone frequently, and unfortunately, that led to all sorts of untrue rumors about an affair. It’s just a bit silly, really.

Okay, so Scott finally talked about all the crazy stuff everyone’s been saying online! It all started after that new podcast episode with Ryan and Adam, you know, where he let slip a little something. Honestly, I’ve been glued to Twitter ever since, and now he’s actually addressing all the fan theories – I’m dying! It’s like he’s reading my mind (and everyone else’s)!

On the show ‘At Home With The Thomas Bros,’ he said their open communication suggested everything was alright and there was nothing to worry about.

‘I’ll be honest I was a bit uncomfortable with it,’ Ryan jokingly replied.

The father of three continued, saying he wasn’t bothered by any of it and didn’t pay attention. He expressed his love for his family’s closeness, but jokingly urged someone to ‘get a life!’

Scott then joked how he actually had eyes for Adam’s wife Caroline Daly, who he married in 2017.

On their podcast, Ryan and Lucy shared that they choose to sleep in separate bedrooms.

Lucy explained: ‘Basically we sleep in separate bedrooms because Ryan is a nightmare sleeper.’

She mentioned Ryan snores, talks, and occasionally hits her while he’s asleep, but she’s gotten used to it, explaining it’s just part of getting a good night’s rest. Occasionally, though, she prefers to sleep with Roman.

Reports suggest Lucy has called off her wedding to Ryan after a seven-year engagement, reportedly because of worries about his financial situation.

Even though Ryan was earning a good salary – around £100,000 a year while working on Coronation Street – he filed for bankruptcy in 2013.

He got into serious debt because of a £40,000 tax bill he couldn’t pay. Although he’s no longer bankrupt, it continues to affect his life.

He admitted he wasn’t sure how much money he’d made recently, explaining that he’s been spending more than he’s earning.

It was recently discovered that his company, R James Thomas Ltd – which handles income from his television appearances and sponsorships – held only £1 in its accounts last year.

Recent financial filings show the company had only one pound in its account for the year ending January 2025.

At the time, the books also revealed he owed more than £30,000 of a Covid Bounce Back Loan.

In the UK, bankruptcy usually disappears from your credit history after six years, but some of the rules and limitations connected to it can remain in place for as long as 15 years.

If you’re applying for something and they ask for a complete record of your finances, you need to mention any past bankruptcies, no matter how long ago they occurred.

According to a source, while Lucy cares for Ryan deeply, tying the knot and combining their finances wouldn’t be a smart move for her.

They do share finances and own property jointly, but it wouldn’t shock me if Lucy is getting legal advice to safeguard her assets.

Ryan has worked hard to overcome past financial problems, and she’s very proud of his progress. However, if he were to face financial trouble again, it could negatively impact her credit score and her own finances, especially if they were to get married.

But another source told the publication that Lucy and Ryan aren’t married because they’re content with their life as it is – enjoying their young children and thriving in their careers.

Daily Mail have contacted Lucy and Ryan’s representatives for comment.
