As a devoted fan of Gavin and Stacey since its inception, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as I read about the show’s impending farewell. Having grown up alongside these characters, their trials and tribulations have become an integral part of my own life narrative. The laughter, tears, and shared moments with Gavin, Stacey, Smithy, Nessa, and the rest of the gang have been a constant comfort during both good times and bad.

Fans of the popular comedy-drama series, Gavin and Stacey, have been left feeling dejected upon hearing that Joanna Page shared the last script of the show on Wednesday.

Yesterday, it was confirmed that the long-anticipated final episode of the show has been fully filmed, with plans to air it on Christmas Day.

On Instagram, the actress representing Stacey Shipman expressed a heartfelt message to her online community.

The star posted a snap of a tattered show script with the words ‘Final Readthrough Scrip. 14th August 2024.’

Joanna captioned the post: ‘And that’s a wrap,’ with a red heart emoji.

Fans were left emotional at the news that the show had concluded filming.

Another added: ‘Mentally and emotionally not ready for this.’

‘So sad that’s it’s the last, as much as I want to see it,’ said a third.

A fourth penned: ‘I’m sad that this will be it…..almost makes me not want to watch it.’

‘Can’t wait but it’s sad that there will be no more,’ another commented.

 A sixth echoed: ‘I’m not prepared for this.’

The principal filming for the final episode commenced on September 2, followed by the cast being spotted at various spots, with Barry Island in Wales, a well-known landmark from the classic comedy, serving as the main setting.

It seems that a significant development in the storyline is Nessa’s upcoming wedding, which may offer resolution to the cliffhanger from the 2019 special episode.

Stars Ruth Jones and James Corden were said to be filming scenes for a wedding last month.

Nevertheless, it remains unconfirmed by the actors whether Smithy and Nessa will truly have a happy ending.

‘Goodbye to Barry and Trinity Street! We won’t be around here any longer as our chapter has ended. It’s been an incredible 17-year journey, one that we will always cherish.’

James added: ‘Thank you very much to everyone, we’ll see you soon.’ 

It will be the first episode of the BBC sitcom since the last Christmas special in 2019.

In that particular episode, viewed by approximately 12 million people, the storyline concluded in suspense as Nessa got down on one knee to propose.

The story revolves around the highs and lows of Gavin and Stacey’s long-distance romance, where he resides with his family in Billericay, Essex, and she dwells in Barry Island.

Eventually, the couple gets married, but during that time, Smithy and Nessa welcome a child named Neil into their lives. As of now, he’s fifteen years old, and we can expect him to appear again in the last episode altogether.

Gavin And Stacey’s final episode will air on BBC One on Christmas Day.
