Jenna Bush Hager reveals her and her twin sister Barbara’s devastating reaction when dad George W. told them he was running for president
As a devoted fan, I find myself utterly captivated by Jenna Bush Hager‘s life story. The way she recounts her personal experiences, especially those shared during Tuesday’s episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna, leaves me feeling as if I’m walking beside her through the annals of history.
Jenna Bush Hager confessed that she and her sister, Barbara, both wept upon learning that their father, George W. Bush, had decided to seek the presidency of the United States of America.
On Tuesday’s episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna, Jenna was joined by substitute host Sheinelle Jones. They were talking about their upcoming guest, Ketanji Brown Jackson, and her new memoir when Jenna, aged 42, chose to share a personal story.
Jenna shared with Sheinelle, 46, that she felt compelled to share her story before she arrives, as it has been bothering her conscience.
As a devoted follower, I’d like to share a moment from her narrative where she discusses an occasion when she was under consideration for the Supreme Court, should President Obama choose her. She and her spouse then gathered their two daughters to discuss the potential shift in their lives. With sincerity, she expressed her concern about their consent, stating, “I want to ensure that this change aligns with your wishes.” To her relief, they responded positively, saying, “We support you, mom. This has been your dream, and we believe in you.”
Allow me to share a relatable experience of mine. At the tender age of sixteen, my father gathered my sister and myself and disclosed his ambitious intentions: “I have a significant announcement to make – I aspire to run for the presidency.”
After Jenna shared the emotional moment, Sheinelle inquired, ‘What did you mean by that?’ as Jenna explained, ‘We both burst into tears! Just like twins often do, we cried together. We told our father, “You’re going to wreck our lives!” and then added, “And no matter where you run, you will lose!”‘
“Indeed, it didn’t quite pan out as planned, but let me tell you, we nearly made it happen! Fast forward to the present, we’ve tracked him down, matured enough to admit our mistake, and publicly apologized for that regrettable incident. Boy, was that a doozy!”
Indeed, George W. Bush was declared the winner in the November 2000 election and went on to serve as the 43rd President of the United States from 2001 until 2009.
Indeed, I’ve always found myself intrigued by the private lives of Jenna and her twin, and in the year 2001, they made headlines when they were apprehended for underage drinking during their freshman college days. This incident occurred mere months after their father was inaugurated into office.
In a straightforward manner, the twins openly admitted that they were caught drinking underage, an incident they also discussed in their 2017 memoir titled “Sisters First”.
In April of 2001, as a freshman at The University of Texas at Austin, Jenna found herself facing charges after being apprehended by the police for consuming alcohol in a club. Later that month, she admitted to the charge of underage possession of alcohol without contest.
In the court proceedings, she was instructed to cover a sum of $51.25 as court fees, carry out eight hours of community service, and participate in an education program focused on alcohol awareness.
The next month, Barbara, who was a student at Yale University, was visiting Jenna in Austin when they were arrested for attempting to purchase alcohol at Chuy’s, a Mexican chain restaurant.
Following the manager’s alert to the authorities, it was discovered (or happened) that some people, who appeared younger than 21, were ordering alcoholic drinks at the restaurant.
As a die-hard fan, I’d rephrase it like this: By the time the cops showed up, Barbara had already been given her drink, only to be slapped with charges for underage drinking. Poor Jenna, though, got turned away when she tried using an ID that belonged to someone of legal age for alcohol consumption.
The incident landed the two on the cover of weekly magazines.
On the Today show in 2022, Jenna mentioned that her father eventually apologized to her and her sister for stating they could lead a ‘normal’ life during their college years.
She stated, “The assumption that we believed we could pull off such an action reflects how our parents encouraged us by saying, ‘You can be regular, it’s alright.'” Acknowledging their youthful folly, she admitted that as underage public figures, it was not the wisest decision.
When I phoned my father to express, “Dad, I’m truly regretful… I received a ticket due to underage drinking,” he replied, “Oh, I’m sorry too.” (or)
1. ‘We certainly gave our parents cause for shame, though they’d never admit it. He expressed remorse, saying something like, “I advised you to behave normally, but you can’t seem to do so. You’re not allowed to order margaritas.'” [This version attempts to make the language more conversational and easy to understand while maintaining the original meaning.]
