ITV’s “blockbuster” detective series confirms exciting new-season update after shock cliffhanger

ITV’s popular detective show, Grace, is returning for another season. The announcement comes after the sixth season ended with a dramatic cliffhanger that left fans eager for more.

ITV has renewed the popular crime drama for a seventh season. John Simm will be back as Detective Superintendent Roy Grace when the show returns to filming in Brighton.

The season six finale ended with a cliffhanger, as Roy and Cleo Morey tied the knot, leaving viewers eager to know what happens next.

Roy felt hopeful after learning that Albazi, the gang leader, had been seen in a Munich hospital on the same day Roy’s wife, Sandy, passed away. This information likely meant they would be able to successfully prosecute Albazi.

During the wedding celebration, Roy learned two shocking things: one of Albazi’s associates was present, and his new wife had been abducted.

Roy got a call from Albazi, who was in prison, and then received a video showing Cleo had been kidnapped. Roy immediately asked, “What do you want?” and the episode ended there.

Reflecting on the show’s renewal, Simm shared, “I never would have guessed when we began filming during lockdown that we’d be continuing for seven seasons!”

Honestly, I’ve stuck with this series for so long – and I know a lot of other fans feel the same way – because of the incredible people making it and the amazing stories they tell. It’s still so exciting and fun to watch, and we’re all really looking forward to seeing what happens next!

A new series of four movies is coming, based on the Roy Grace novels by Peter James. So far, two of the films have been confirmed: ‘When You Are Dead’ and ‘Picture You Dead’. The other two titles will be revealed later.

Richie Campbell and Zoë Tapper will return as DI Glenn Branson and Cleo, respectively, for season seven. Laura Elphinstone as DS Bella Moy and Brad Morrison as DC Nick Nicholl will also be back.

The latest episode of the ITV drama Grace was a huge success, becoming the channel’s most-watched drama of the year overnight. It has since attracted 5.7 million viewers, making it ITV’s second most popular drama series, only surpassed by Gone.

Grace airs on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
