Is the Grotesquerie episode 7 ending the worst plot twist of the year? (The clues we missed)
As a seasoned gamer of suspenseful storytelling and a devoted fan of Ryan Murphy’s works, I must admit that I found myself underwhelmed by the latest twist in Grotesquerie episode 7. Having invested my time in the series initially due to its intriguing premise and engaging performances, I was left feeling rather disillusioned when it started meandering off course.
In the title of this post, the question it poses is a matter of personal opinion. Following episode 7 of “Grotesquerie,” I’ve noticed a variety of responses online. Some fans are thrilled with the twist and eagerly anticipate what’s to come for Lois (Niecy Nash-Betts). However, others, including myself, find the twist underwhelming. Frankly, I had grown tired of the storyline and was hoping for a conclusion – now it seems like we’re back at square one with the mystery restarting? Remarkably satisfying, indeed.
Initially, I was captivated by the series “Grotesquerie” upon its debut. I appreciated the acting and how the narrative was more cohesive compared to certain episodes of “American Horror Story>”. However, I started losing interest around the fourth episode. I found myself questioning the direction and wondering why new characters were introduced who seemed unrelated to the storyline. There was also a theory that Lois’ husband Marshall (Courtney B. Vance) could be Mr. Grotesquerie. Everything felt like a cul-de-sac. As it turns out, all of this was just a fabrication. That’s why it didn’t make sense at the time.
Reflecting on it now, Ryan Murphy subtly planted some suggestions across the initial six episodes that implied this wasn’t a reality show. In retrospect, these were some signs we may have overlooked.
Fast Eddie (Travis Kelce)
Ed Laclan appeared in Lois Tryon’s life out of nowhere. Almost like an angel. When we first met Eddie. He helped Lois with her cigarette and was sitting across from her in a matter of a few seconds. At first, I didn’t even think Eddie was real. I thought he was an angel or someone only Lois could see. Then we have the getaway car Lois and Eddie rode off in. If it’s too good to be true, it is not true.
The lighting
Wasn’t it peculiar to you that the lighting in “Grotesquerie” seemed inconsistent? It was either excessively dark or had an orange tint, or both. Who could possibly reside in such a dimly lit environment? I understand that it fits the theme, but it felt overdone and we ended up accepting it without questioning it further.
Did any other hints slip by us that appear quite clear now? What’s your take on the major plot twist? Do you believe it will prove satisfying and regain interest from viewers who aren’t fond of it? I’ll give it another shot and watch next week, but I’m not overly hopeful.
Only three more episodes remain following episode 7. Episodes 8 and 9 will air on October 23rd, with the final episode set to release a week later, on October 30th.
